In the fairy-tale Agrabahu – review of the comic book “Aladdin”

Another comic adaptation to hit the literary market through Egmont is Aladdin . It is a touching volume about poverty and wealth, about the desire to know the world and about love in spite of everything.

Fabulous

The protagonist of one of the stories of the Book of One Thousand and One Nightsthere is Aladdin – a petty thief who one day acquires a magic lamp. As it turns out, the mysterious object is inhabited by a genie with the power to grant wishes. With his help, Aladdin fulfills his big dream: he becomes a prince and wins the heart of the charming princess Jasmine. He does not know, however, that the cunning vizier would also like to possess the lamp. The details of the story (as well as the spelling of the characters’ names) differ depending on the message – the original story assumes a slightly dramatized message (being buried in the basement to certain death, arrests, murders …), while others are prepared with the youngest in mind. It is worth mentioning the large number of screen adaptations of the stories about Aladdin and the magic lamp, which for many years introduced the audience to this oriental world; these are, among others: a Soviet filmAladdin’s Miracle Lamp (1966), Japanese anime film Aladdin’s Lamp (1982), Disney productions: Aladdin (1992), Aladdin: Return of Jafar (1994), Aladdin and the King of Thieves (1996), as well as numerous international series. In 2019, Guy Stuart Ritchie also produced a film musical called Aladdin , who met with mixed reactions from critics. The script of the proposal under review is based (fortunately) on a full-length animated film that premiered exactly 30 years ago, although of course it is a bit shortened – remember, however, that it is not quantity but quality that is important!

A comic proposition for the youngest

The newest volume from Egmont will surely appeal to both young readers and their parents. It is admittedly a small notebook (about 60 pages), but enriched with an appropriate storyline (adaptation of the script for the first edition – Bobbi JG Weiss, translation from English – Mateusz Lis) and beautiful illustrations (original character drawings – Xavier Vives Mateu , new colors for characters and backgrounds – Angela Capolupo – MA World, cover – Andrea – drBestia – Cavallini). In addition, the volume has been enriched with the presentation of characters (on the first pages) and additional graphics (collected under the common heading Memoirs). It is one of the classic Disney fairy tales, which, as the publishers also emphasize, is crucial in the process of publishing this series. The scenario is delightful, the colorful visual setting also, and moreover, it is worth mentioning the fast-paced action and humor – a smile on the readers’ lips will appear more than once!

Plans for the future

So far, the following volumes have been released in the series: The Lion King , 101 Dalmatians , Tramp in Love , Mulan and Aladdin . The Little Mermaid is being prepared . Egmont has accustomed us to high-quality comic books, so we are looking forward to the next comic!
