The Doctor’s Wife
This is definitely my favorite episode from the time of the Eleventh! The episode was written by one of the most popular modern fantasy writers – Neil Gaiman (a big fan of the series), who perfectly combined his unique style with the characteristic atmosphere of the production. On the screen we observe the protagonist’s meeting with his non-obvious… wife.
This time the Doctor is called to help by another Time Lord, but on the spot it turns out that the living planet is a trap for his countrymen and their time travel machines. The House (mentioned antagonist) transfers the Tardis consciousness to the human body – Idris. On the screen we observe the amazing chemistry between the Doctor and his title wife, who once again (this time in a slightly different form) set off on an extraordinary adventure with a phenomenal sense of humor and answers to questions such as: why is the blue booth so often “wrong” in choosing a destination? The Doctor’s courtship to Tardis is also amazing (throughout the episode, the protagonists’ accounts are full of flirting and mutual adoration) and showing a certain independence of the heroine, claiming that she chose the Doctor and loves to go on adventures with him.
The great acting is also worth mentioning. This is definitely one of Matt Smith’s best performances, who on the one hand still creates a Doctor with a God complex, extraordinary self-confidence and a sly smile that solves every problem, and at the same time a mental kid, which can be seen especially in his relationship with even crazier Idris (phenomenal Suranne Jones ). All this makes The Doctor’s Wife absolutely my top 5 on New Who. – Mateusz Michałek
