The comic book Towards Your Eternity tells about an immortal being that can take any shape. Is there an equally compelling story behind the original protagonist?
Here is a story about searching for yourself
The main character of the manga is existence, and more precisely the ball is thrown onto the surface of the Earth. The uniqueness of this creature is that it can take any shape and, moreover, has been endowed with eternal life. So the first form she chose was a stone, then a moss, and finally a wolf appeared. And so began the journey of the nameless hero.
Soon he came across a man, specifically a young boy who lived alone in an abandoned village. He had one dream. He wanted to taste the sweet fruits found in the “land of honey and flowing milk” somewhere in the south. His relatives were to return from the trip and take them with them to this unique place. Nevertheless, when they did not come for a long time, he and his animal companion decided to get to his destination himself. And so this extraordinary entity set out on another journey to learn even more and finally take the form of a human being.
In search of identity
The main character, named later in the manga Niesiem, matures in an unusual way. First, in the form of a wolf, he learns to walk or eat. Then it looks more and more like a child. For this reason, there are also many comic scenes. Over the course of three volumes, you can see how much he has learned to the point where he begins to resemble a normal human being (especially the way he is praised). There are a lot of other characters besides him, two of which stand out in particular: March and Gugu. Behind both are stories of sacrifice and difference. March wants to grow up at all costs. It stands out among others by the way it is drawn. Gugu, on the other hand, is a young man who hides his face under the mask. He’s quite an intriguing character, especially since we don’t see his facial expressions. In addition, Moonshine Grandpa experimented with it,
There are also characters such as the brave Parona, the “shaman” Pioran, and the first antagonist, Hayase, to ensure that March is sacrificed.
There will be no happy ending
The Devil Bear Attacks!
To your eternity it has a cover made of stiff paper with wings. The production and translation are satisfactory. I can only fault the inconsistent page numbering. In addition, I came across one typo on page 131 (“shanbili”). The graphics are amazing. Both character designs and attention to detail should be appreciated. The dynamic scenes are also well drawn, for example the scenes of the fight with the devil’s bear.
The manga also features elements of legends and distinctive costumes, such as the impractical but fun and original headgear of the Yanome warriors.
Is it worth going on a journey with Niesie?
Definitely yes. Yoshitoki Oima presented an amazing story with a lot of potential. It is impossible to break away from reading. In my opinion, it is worth finding out what the author will have to say in the next volumes.
