We also have comity- review of comics “Smurfs and the world of emotions”, vol. 6-7

In the newest albums from the series Smurfs and the world of emotions , the problem of lies was touched upon and the effects of lack of patience was highlighted. Thierry Culliford in cooperation with Falzar and Antonell Dalen (including Ernest and Rebekah, WITCH ) has prepared other interesting offers for children and parents.

Unfathomable emotions

Volume 6 presents the story of a Smurf who is still lying. He realizes that in a Village inhabited by blue heroes, everyone is good at something (eg Bully is an outstanding athlete, and Pracuś can fix everything) and he also wants to have talent, he wants to be admired. To do this, he makes power up and brag about experiences that are not real. The lie brings Smurf to shame because the truth always comes out. The authors of the volume ironically ask (on the cover) whether “such a person may in any way prove useful in the Smurf community”? We are after reading volume 4. – Smurfette is the same Smurf as the others– which mentioned the acceptance of imperfections and otherness; Should the question I mentioned appear on the cover of the album in this situation? Consider this on your own. Volume 7 – Smurf who was impatient – is a story about an nameless hero who is always in a hurry and constantly thinks about something new. Unfortunately, he lacks patience, and without it, he is unable to do anything or learn anything. What’s more, he also hurts other villagers with his behavior. Failures, however, lead to reflection on the essence of one’s own being.

Perspective of a psychologist

The albums contain advice for parents on how to talk to their child about emotions, as well as the opinion of a child psychologist, Sylwia Jatczak. The youngest who reach for the next volumes of the series The Smurfs and the World of Emotions , most likely – also thanks to their parents – will notice that the stories told are also reflected in life. The texts are structured in such a way that the child gets to know the emotion by translating it into the feelings of the protagonist. Smurf describes, tells and experiences, and the recipient reacts. Papa Smurf plays the role of a therapist in comics – he explains, looks for an idea to solve the situation, and makes people aware of how to overcome fears. Each album has been enriched with a guide (at the end of the volume) that helps to systematize knowledge; it also makes it easy for parents to initiate a conversation with their children about emotions.

A series for preschoolers?

The heroes whose stories we learn in the volumes are well known. They are the Smurfs – liked by young and old. Regardless of whether the child reads the comic alone or with a parent , Smurfs and the world of emotions is a valuable proposition on the publishing market. It should be noted that it is not only about the story itself, beautiful illustrations and added value, but also the therapeutic role of such literature. Learning to empathize and sensitize children to the problems of others can have a huge impact on an individual who knows the world and learns to respond to failure. The series can certainly also contribute to reducing the negative emotions of the reader who notices that the communication may be smurf.
