Various unusual races live there, including the Gelflings. Their world is beginning to die, all thanks to Skeksis, creatures destroying the environment for their own ends. So the little heroes start a revolt to get rid of the wicked creatures and thus save the land.
Something familiar, something new
In The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistence Tactics, we will guide the actions of the Gelflings. We will go through the entire script known from the Netflix series. However, the developers decided to diversify our gameplay a bit. Therefore, in addition to the main storyline, we get a few side quests that we haven’t seen before. We will also have heroes known from the screen, including Rian, Deet, Brea and Podling Hup. However, there will be characters that we have never seen before. We will also find good friends among our enemies, including the Chamberlain and the Hunter, but we will see many of them for the first time – and for the last time if the mission goes as planned. The same also applies to the locations we discover.

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistence Tactics was produced by BonusXP and published by En Masse Entertainment. It is a turn-based strategy with RPG elements. Our task is to recover new lands from the rule of Skeksis. To do this, we choose an available mission, then we determine the composition of our squad and start the fight. The board on which we are fighting is covered with square fields. At the top of the screen, we can see which of the heroes or opponents will be active in the next turn. During our action, we can move the Gelfling and order it to perform a ranged or direct attack, cast a spell, support a teammate or take a defensive position. Most of our tasks will be to kill all enemies. Sometimes we will have to get to a specific place or not let a character important for the plot be eliminated. After completing the mission, we will return to the world map, where new orders will be unlocked for us, and we will have to choose what we want to do and in what order. For the completed elements of the adventure, our Gelflings will receive experience points and gain new levels. This way their statistics will increase and new specializations and new combat skills will be unlocked. In addition, our account will receive money in the form of pearls that we will spend in the store. You can buy weapons and armor affecting our pupils. Seemingly beautiful, but something is missing
Both the graphics and characters are based on the Netfilxia series. Therefore, in The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistence Tactics we watch the world transferred from the screen alive. All details were taken care of, such as the appearance of fauna and flora and interior design. The heroes were also perfectly reproduced. At first glance, we are able to recognize Riana or Deet. The creators also added a lot of realism. For example, when a character runs across the table, he will scatter all the dishes on the table to the sides. It is also worth mentioning the inventory. Now, when we buy an ax and give it to one of the Gelflings, we will immediately see the weapon in his hand. Unfortunately, this is not the case with armor. No matter what we dress our subordinate in, his outfit will not change.
One of the game’s major drawbacks is the soundtrack. When we are on the world map, in the background we hear pleasant and atmospheric music known from the series. During the fights, the sound is almost inaudible, heavily subdued, and only the clash of weapons and the groans of fighting characters reach our ears. However, any fan will be disappointed because they won’t hear the voices of their favorite heroes. Since the game is licensed, we should hear the actors voicing the Gelflings. However, this is not the case. Everything is limited to sighs, grunts, and screams. When the characters are in dialogue, we only see it in speech bubbles and we can read to each other without being able to hear the spoken lines. The only thing that managed to adapt from the series are the characteristic murmurs of the Chamberlain. It’s always something to wipe away tears.

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistence Tactics is a single-player game without an online mode. At the moment it is only available in English. It’s a pretty nice turn-based strategy that should appeal to all fans of the series. Beautiful graphics and refined characters please the eye. It’s also nice to enter Thra yourself and help the Gelflings defeat the Skeksis. In addition to being able to recall the scenario from the Netflix production, we will also discover a lot of additional missions that we have not seen so far. And although our adventure is limited to the next very similar tasks and character development, it is difficult to break away from it. Each time we are curious what will happen next. People who haven’t seen the Dark Crystalhowever, they must consider whether they want to reach for this title. He is one big spoiler. That is why it is worth watching all the episodes first, and then sitting in front of computer monitors.
