Only the worst will survive!
In this timeline, the Justice League has fallen, and the survivors are fighting for their lives. We also have another team – the villains led by Deathstroke, the world’s most dangerous paid murderer. Their talent for dealing with evil decides to use Vandal Savage. The comic also features a group led by Jason Todd aka Red Hood fighting the dangers at every turn. Both teams are to decide on the future of the world in chaos. This can prove to be a very difficult task. For bad guys are not motivated by good intentions. Will they manage to forget about the old things and fight for the common good?
Heroes focus
Despite the fact that the whole comic book has an aura of struggle for survival in a world overrun by zombies, screenwriter Taylor is also able to focus on the stories and thoughts of individual characters. Each of them, thrown into the whirlwind of events, tries to find themselves in this very unusual situation. They experience moments of hope and despair, sometimes forcing them to look at the effects of their actions. Taylor has successfully created an interesting world in which superheroes and villains have to face the apocalypse of the world. The plot is not too complicated, and the scriptwriter does not try to argue philosophically. The emphasis is rather on what a feeling of fear can do to a person.
How do the drawings fare against the scenario? Karl Mostert, who is responsible for the graphic design, has very well presented the atmosphere of the increasingly progressive apocalypse with his line. Individual frames and full-page illustrations are a real pleasure to watch. Additionally, we can also see alternative versions of covers made by other artists. The comic was published in a solid, hardcover (Egmont had already got his readers used to the high level of the proposals). As for the translation and errors, I haven’t noticed anything glaring.
Summary
DCeased: Unkillables is a very good sequel, depicting a world plunged into a zombie apocalypse. Tom Taylor found an interesting way to tell a story through which we get to know the characters better. Everything is complemented by Mostert’s atmospheric graphics, which gives a comic book worth recommending (with a clear conscience!).
