Some of Disney’s most beloved animated franchises are getting sequels. On Wednesday, Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger announced that new Toy Story , Frozen and Zootopia sequels are in the works at the studio.

During the conversation, Iger emphasized how important it is to take care of the company’s key franchises. Therefore, the fifth film in the Toy Story series , the third part of Frozen and the continuation of Zootopia will be made .

And today, I’m very pleased to announce that we have sequels in the works for some of our most popular franchises: Toy Story , Frozen , and Zootopia . We’ll have more to share about these productions soon, but this is a prime example of how we leverage our unrivaled brands and franchises.

The turn to familiar stories is not entirely surprising. Original animated films such as last year’s Strange World struggled with sales figures. And all three series mentioned by Iger have recently surpassed $1 billion on the global chart.

The franchise’s data has branched out significantly in recent years, including the Toy Story spinoff Buzz Lightyear and the Zootopia+ series on Disney+.

No details have been revealed yet, much less the release dates of the scheduled movies.

What would Frozen 3 be about?

Since the debut of Frozen 2 in 2019, the prospect of a third part has been widely discussed. As people involved in the franchise have hinted in the following years, there is definitely a possibility of returning to the story of Anna and Elsa.

Clearly there is a real fascination with the stories of the sisters and the whole family. But right now we’re focused on other things, I’m focused on Ray and the Last Dragon . Frozen co-director Jennifer Lee is focused on running the studio, but we still love these characters.

explained producer Peter Del Vecho during a press conference for Disney+ shorts Once Upon a Snowman in 2020.

Frozen 3 won’t happen if there’s no reason. I trust this team with all my heart that if they don’t have an amazing idea, they won’t work on a new movie. But I also know that the second this idea comes up, they’ll be the first to say, “Let’s do it.”

said actor Josh Gad, who dubbed Olaf in a 2021 interview.
