The musical , which debuted on Broadway in 2003, became one of the highest-grossing ones. Musical theater grossed over $1 billion in total from it. So it’s no wonder that the idea for the film was born. However, no one expected that the creation process would take several years.
What is Wicked about ?
It’s actually a prequel to the famous Wizard of Oz story . This time we will be able to see her from the witches’ point of view. It all starts even before Dorothy arrives . The film tells the story of an unusual friendship between Elphaba, who became the Wicked Witch of the West and Galinda. We will also find out what really happened in the mysterious Land of Oz and who the famous Wizard is.
Who will we see in the cast?
The information on the actors is constantly being expanded. It has been known for a long time that Ariana Grande will play Glinda and Cynthia Erivo will play Elfaba. Director Jon M. Chu recently tweeted out a few more names joining Wicked.
When will the movie hit the screens?
Fans have been waiting for the saga for a long time. Jon M. Chu, however, does not hide the difficulties in working on the prequel. He explained why he decided to divide it into 2 parts:
Here’s what happened: When we’ve been prepping for the past year, it’s become impossible to tackle the story of Wicked in one movie without doing real damage to it. When we tried to cut songs or trim characters, those decisions began to feel like fatal compromises to the source material that had entertained us all for so many years. We decided to give ourselves more “field to show off” and shoot not one film, but two! With more space, we can tell the story of “The Evil One” as it was meant to be told, bringing even more depth and surprise to these characters’ journeys.
