The long-awaited “Mad Max: Furiosa” will debut in 2024!

After many years of waiting, the desert world of Mad Max returns to the screens in a new prequel. The announcement of Mad Max: Furiosa causes a wave of enthusiasm among fans not only of the original trilogy, but also among everyone who loves spectacular post-apocalyptic adventures.

Mad Max: Furiosa will debut in theaters next year, marking a new path for George Miller’s beloved franchise. As the title suggests, Furiosa will be a prequel telling the story of a younger Emperor Furiosa (Anya Taylor-Joy) and her allies and adversaries before the events of Mad Max: Fury Road . According to a new report from Variety , Furiosa could make a real splash next year with its premiere at the annual Cannes Film Festival. If this actually happened, it would be the latest of Miller’s several films, following 2015’s Fury Road . and Three Thousand Years of Longing from 2022. However, as the report highlights, rumors about Furiosa’s Cannes premiere plans are currently preliminary and will depend on the resolution of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, allowing the cast to promote the film.

We remembered the world premiere of Fury Road in Cannes in an extraordinary way . It would be great to welcome them back with Furiosa, especially since George Miller was a great jury president in 2016. I know he’s working on a film and I hope it will premiere in Cannes.

– said the head of the Cannes Festival , Thierry Fremaux, in Variety .

What will Mad Max: Furiosa be about ?

In Mad Max: Furiosa , after the fall of the world, young Furiosa is kidnapped from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of the great Biker Horde led by Warlord Dementus. While traveling through the Wastes, they come across the Citadel, led by Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants fight for supremacy, Furiosa must survive many trials while gathering resources to find her way home. The film will also star Chris Hemsworth as Dementus.

When we wrote Mad Max , our job was to tell a story that was always going to be on the move and see how much the audience could pick up on in passing. That was one of the tricks of Mad Max: Fury Road , that there were references to where she came from and why she did things, but she was always on the run. There were very few moments of silence, and we never explained how she lost her arm. We never explain what the Green Place of Many Mothers actually was. We never explained how the Citadel worked. So the script was practically ready before we shot Fury Road , and we did it because we wanted to explain to everyone who Furiosa was – to Charlize when she took the role, to all the actors and designers and others working on The Citadel and so on. I felt like it was a pretty good script, and then I kept telling myself, If Fury Road works, I’d really like to tell this story.

– Miller previously explained on The AV Club

So it happened, I won’t say accidentally, but out of a need to explain the world of [ Fury Road ], which, as I said, basically happened over the course of three days and two nights. We’re really trying to explain how this world came to be. Reminds me of the story of the Doof Warrior who plays the guitar. How can a blind man who can only play the guitar survive in the middle of nowhere where everyone is in dire straits? How did he end up there? So when writing Fury Road, we also wrote short stories for each character.

Miller continued.

Mad Max: Furiosa is currently scheduled to premiere on May 24, 2024.
