Back to the Future is a franchise that includes three full-length movies, an animated series, dozens of comic books, and a video game. Writers and producers Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis retained full control of the series and have steadfastly refused to consider any attempt to reboot the Back to the Future universe, whether in the form of a sequel or reboot .
However, this did not diminish the enthusiasm of the fans of the series, which has been reissued numerous times on home media and always enjoys unflagging popularity. Toys and merchandising continue to be sold regularly, with Tom Wilson recently selling his VHS copy of the film for $75,000. Many writers and filmmakers cited the first installment of Back to the Future as the “perfect” script, and both Fox and Lloyd became beloved characters in popular culture.
The reunion of the actors surprised fans due to Fox’s health problems. The actor has become the world’s most famous Parkinson’s patient since he announced his diagnosis back in 1998. Instead, he retired in 2020, 30 years after his initial diagnosis and 20 years later than his doctor estimated he would be able to continue working. However, Fox admitted that it had become virtually impossible to remember his lines.
In addition to appearing at conventions and meeting fans, Fox spends his time writing books and giving interviews. He also helps run the non-profit organization he founded, which works to improve the quality of life for people with Parkinson’s disease and continue to work on treatment.
