The more perceptive – often also imaginative – viewers try to forestall the Duffer Brothers by telling a story about teenagers from Hawkins. Out of the many theories about the season of the series that have arisen recently, and thus the overall end of the series, we have selected five most interesting in our opinion.
Return 008
The character 008, also known as Kali, was introduced in the second season of the series. Eleven’s “sister” appeared only for a few episodes, but there are many indications that she can play a key role in the final clash with Vecna. The show’s creators themselves provided us with the reasons to believe this.
The fact that the Duffer brothers are masters of foreshadowing has been easily observed in recent years. Often these are so subtle references that it is only when we watch the series the second or third time that we see the resulting analogies. A perfect example here is the scene from Suzie’s house, where in the apparent chaos created by the heroine’s numerous siblings, we actually saw the season finale. Sword fighting referred to a fight in a Russian prison, where Hooper defeated Demagorgon with this very weapon, and one of the children played a tragic death scene that foreshadowed Eddie’s tragic fate.
But what does this have to do with Kali’s return? Let’s go back to the first episode of Season 4 and the famous D&D Final. The creators have already used campaigns played by heroes, referring to their threads, so it’s worth taking a look at probably the most important game. The final battle takes place between Team Hellfire and Vecna, who, as we know, later becomes an antagonist in the real life of the heroes as well.
From the very beginning, the campaign has a lot to do with what we could see on the screen in the final episode. The players, weakened after the last clash, decide to fight until death. At a crucial moment, Dustin rolls an 11 and fails to beat Vecna - just like Eleven in the season finale. Erika’s next move turns out to be victorious after the heroine manages to roll out 20.
Simultaneously with the final of the D&D campaign, the Hawkins basketball team championship is held, where Lucas’s hit throw decided about the victory. How does this relate to the theory of Kali’s return? Lucas enters the field with the number 8 on his jersey. Some fans also refer to the number of spots rolled in the winning move of the campaign. I am not an eagle in mathematics, but I know that 11 + 8 + 1 = 20. According to the theory, the decisive clash is to take place between the heroes to whom such numbers are assigned.
Even if we find that the theory is quite far-fetched, the return of the Eight would be logically justified. The heroes face the final clash with Vecna, which even Eleven could not cope with. Seeking support in Kali, which not only leads a group considered dangerous criminals but also possesses supernatural abilities, would certainly be a valuable asset in the fight against the One.
