Stranger Things: top 5 of the most interesting fan theories!

Attention! This article features season 4 spoilers! Although a month has passed since the end of season 4, it still arouses strong emotions among fans of the series. No wonder – it left more questions than answers, and how the creators themselves like to remind their fans: nothing we see on the screen appears on it by accident.

The more perceptive – often also imaginative – viewers try to forestall the Duffer Brothers by telling a story about teenagers from Hawkins. Out of the many theories about the season of the series that have arisen recently, and thus the overall end of the series, we have selected five most interesting in our opinion.

Return 008

The character 008, also known as Kali, was introduced in the second season of the series. Eleven’s “sister” appeared only for a few episodes, but there are many indications that she can play a key role in the final clash with Vecna. The show’s creators themselves provided us with the reasons to believe this.

The fact that the Duffer brothers are masters of foreshadowing has been easily observed in recent years. Often these are so subtle references that it is only when we watch the series the second or third time that we see the resulting analogies. A perfect example here is the scene from Suzie’s house, where in the apparent chaos created by the heroine’s numerous siblings, we actually saw the season finale. Sword fighting referred to a fight in a Russian prison, where Hooper defeated Demagorgon with this very weapon, and one of the children played a tragic death scene that foreshadowed Eddie’s tragic fate.

But what does this have to do with Kali’s return? Let’s go back to the first episode of Season 4 and the famous D&D Final. The creators have already used campaigns played by heroes, referring to their threads, so it’s worth taking a look at probably the most important game. The final battle takes place between Team Hellfire and Vecna, who, as we know, later becomes an antagonist in the real life of the heroes as well.

From the very beginning, the campaign has a lot to do with what we could see on the screen in the final episode. The players, weakened after the last clash, decide to fight until death. At a crucial moment, Dustin rolls an 11 and fails to beat Vecna - just like Eleven in the season finale. Erika’s next move turns out to be victorious after the heroine manages to roll out 20.

Simultaneously with the final of the D&D campaign, the Hawkins basketball team championship is held, where Lucas’s hit throw decided about the victory. How does this relate to the theory of Kali’s return? Lucas enters the field with the number 8 on his jersey. Some fans also refer to the number of spots rolled in the winning move of the campaign. I am not an eagle in mathematics, but I know that 11 + 8 + 1 = 20. According to the theory, the decisive clash is to take place between the heroes to whom such numbers are assigned.

Even if we find that the theory is quite far-fetched, the return of the Eight would be logically justified. The heroes face the final clash with Vecna, which even Eleven could not cope with. Seeking support in Kali, which not only leads a group considered dangerous criminals but also possesses supernatural abilities, would certainly be a valuable asset in the fight against the One.

Karen is Vecna’s sister

There was a lot of talk about Karen Wheeler’s significant role in season four, and not because of the increased screen time. On the contrary – theories about her relationship with Henry Kreel began during the month-long break between the episodes, which is the hottest period for the emergence of more and more interesting theories.

When Netflix released posters promoting the second half of the season, fans quickly picked up an interesting relationship. The images of the heroes who played an important role in the series were assigned to places important to their plots. So the image of Joyce and Hopper appeared above the Russian prison, Mike and Jonathan above the house in California, and above the Kreel house we see … Karen Wheeler.

Placing her character here seems quite unusual, considering the low level of character participation in season four, and the fact that she was the only one of our heroes’ Hawkins parents to receive their own poster. So why did she appear over the family home of Vecna, the main antagonist of season four?

Many people believe that she is Henry Kreel’s sister – Alice, whom we saw in the memories of Jedynka. While she has been officially pronounced dead, it wouldn’t be the first time in the show’s history that one of the heroes returns from beyond the grave. Some fans are convinced that Alice changed her name after the traumatic events and started a new life eventually becoming Karen Wheeler.

An additional argument for this theory is that Vecna for some reason spared none other than Nancy Wheeler, who in this scenario could be considered Henry’s niece. By marking and ultimately killing Nancy, Vecna’s plan could have been carried out much faster – the teenager, however, was set free, although marking her would have greatly accelerated the implementation of the antagonist’s plan.

Will and his relationship with Vecna

According to this theory, it was not the Demogorgon, but Vecna, who kidnapped Will in the first season of Stranger Things . After Eleven refused to cooperate with Henry Kreel, he was forced to find a new ally. Harassed at school and abandoned by his father, always feeling like an outsider, Will seems the perfect choice for an antagonist preying on the trauma of the heroes.

The scene in the first season where Will is lost in the woods is also the first scene where we hear Vecna’s clock. In later seasons we learn that Demagorgon is actually an animal, a monster, devoid of human consciousness and intelligence. He also has no abilities that One and Eleven have. So what is puzzling is the scene where Will locks himself in the shed, trying to take cover, and the slammed lock simply opens, as if by telekinesis. So is it possible that Vecna was behind his disappearance from the beginning?

There is also an additional question – how did he manage to survive for so long on the other side? Perhaps that’s why we saw him sing his favorite song while hiding from the monsters of the Other Side: Should I stay or shoud I go? Achieving exactly the same effect as Max with the song Kate Bush in the fourth season.

Some fans say Will is connected to Vecna in a similar way as Harry Potter is to Lord Voldemort. He is the only one who senses his presence, has visions, and their minds are connected in some way. Another theory is that Will has been working with Vecna from the outset – controlled by him or voluntarily – and possibly gained powers similar to those of Eleven. In both her and Kali’s case, the intense use of force was associated with the inevitable nosebleed. In the final scene of season four, viewers caught something that resembled the same situation with Will.

Will Will prove to be the key to defeating Vecna and closing the other side once and for all?

Will as the creator of a new monster

If Will is indeed uniquely connected to Henry Kreel, it would mean that, like him, he can create the Other Side. We already know that Jedynka had a rather unnatural sympathy for spiders, and this fascination allowed him to escape from reality. Will treats the D&D universe in a similar way. It can be said that the fantasy world was a stepping stone for him from the problems plaguing him in real life.

In Vecna’s memoirs, we saw an innocent drawing of a huge spider become a real threat to Hawkins in season three. The Mind Raider, beginning on a piece of paper, nearly defeated our favorite heroes.

So far, each of the monsters in the series has been inspired by the world of D&D , and we’ll probably see the same thing next season. However, there is a chance that the new monster has already been indirectly introduced to us. Some fans are convinced that Will created a new hero in the same way as One created the Mind Raider.

The painting by Will shows the team clash with Hawkins with a three-headed dragon, which is, of course, a monster from the Dungeons and Dragons universe . This is also where another theory is formed, predicting Mike’s death. Will introduced him as the leader of the warrior team, but it might as well be a sign that the hero will sacrifice himself to protect his friends.

It would also have to do with the aforementioned vision of Nancy. In addition to his plan, Vecna showed the heroine the death of part of the family – including Mike, as well as “A huge creature with a wide open mouth.” Perhaps what she saw was Will’s monster?

Eddie’s return

The vast majority of fans (or female fans) of the series counts on this development. But let’s start from the beginning: the Duffer brothers have accustomed their viewers to a certain pattern. Each season presents an easy-to-like character to which the recipient quickly becomes attached. Ultimately, however, she is put to death, leaving the fans devastated. We could observe this fate in the case of Barb, Alexei, Bob, and even Billy, who managed to do penance in our eyes and gain a little sympathy in his last moments. It may be different in the case of Eddie, whose popularity has exceeded the expectations of both the creators and the actor himself.

Although “Edward, the vampire” is mainly associated with Twilight , many believe that this is the fate of the hero from Stranger Things . The clue is to be the finale of the D&D campaign, played in the first episode of the season. And as we know, the Dungeons and Dragons universe is a huge inspiration for the plot of the series.

It didn’t take long for the fans to put the threads together. According to this theory, Vecna will make Eddie return as a vampire (and, like Kas mentioned earlier), he will fight by his side to finally betray and defeat the “one”. It is also worth mentioning that Kas used a shield and a sword in combat – exactly the same weapon that Eddie fought with bats, associated with vampires.

When I think about this theory, the saying “a drowning man grabs a razor” comes to mind. While it’s definitely one of the most interesting I have come across, I hope it’s not just a rather peculiar way for fans to disprove the fact that the hero who stole the hearts of fans won’t be making a comeback next season.

What is most interesting, both the Duffer brothers and Joseph Quinn himself, playing the role of Eddie, did not expect such a great success for this character. Perhaps now that they have realized what the potential is in his story, they will finally take pity on the fans?

This theory is so strong that even Joseph Quinn referred to it in one of his recent interviews. At the suggestion of Eddie’s return to the living, he simply stated – suspiciously many times – that he didn’t know. He openly admitted, however, that he would love to reprise himself as our favorite Hawkins rebel.

There are many more theories themselves, and what is new is more interesting . Stranger Things is one of Netflix ‘s greatest hits and even if none of the theories turns out to be true, we will have an exciting screening. The Duffer brothers have already officially started working on the script for Season 5, so we only have to wait for the final resolution of many of the threads.

Which of the theories do you think has the best chance of being met?
