In the fourth season of Stranger Things , we could again watch Mike and Will’s relationship develop. At the beginning of the series, they were only childhood friends, although after the events of the new episodes, many fans began to suspect that Will had more to do with his friend than just a friendly affection. The suspicions were confirmed by the actor playing the role of a teenager, Noah Schnapp.
Noah Schnapp has confirmed that the character he plays in the Netflix series is homosexual. In an interview with Variety , the actor confessed that for a long time the creators had been trying to tell viewers that Will was not interested in girls. The series never showed it directly, so many viewers may have doubts as to whether they were interpreting Will’s feelings for Mike as the creators planned. Now, after these words from Noah, there is no longer any doubt:
Of course, that was already implied in the first season: it was always there, but you were never sure if he [Will – ed. Ed.] he just doesn’t grow up slower than his colleagues. Now that he is older, they did [Will’s orientation – ed. ed.] something very real and obvious. Now it’s 100% obvious that he is gay and in love with Mike.
The actor also mentioned that he really liked how Will’s character was written, as his sexual maturation looks natural, not spontaneous and without justification.
Until recently, Noah himself did not know what the writers had in mind for his character. Matt and Ross Duffers are said to have always had Will’s story in their minds, but they didn’t reveal everything to the actor until recently. Schnapp confessed that he discovered the next cards himself together with the audience:
A few years ago, in the first season, I didn’t know what the Duffers wanted to do with this character. Therefore, in my own way, I discovered it with the audience. However, now that I’ve talked to them and watched the show, I know what they want to do with it. Of course, they don’t tell me everything. I’m always spoiling so they never want to tell me. Also, I still have a lot to discover on my own.
