It was full of nostalgia! We will soon see the production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 4k! The recreated Disney film will debut on Disney+!

One day, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will come to Disney+ in 4K. Disney announced today that “someday” is Monday, October 16, in celebration of The Walt Disney Company’s 100th anniversary. The recreation of Walt Disney’s original 1937 classic – which is available on 4K UHD Blu-ray on October 10 – comes from the Walt Disney Studios Restoration and Preservation team, working closely with key artists from Walt Disney Animation Studios. The two teams recently restored Cinderella, the 1950 Disney classic, which premiered in a 4K “definitive restoration” version on Disney+ over the summer .

Disney Animation artists Michael Giaimo (production designer for the upcoming Wish and Frozen and Frozen II ) and veteran animator/director Eric Goldberg ( Aladdin , Pocahontas , head of hand-drawn animation on Disney Animation’s 100th anniversary short Once Upon a Studio ) oversaw 4K restoration. Disney has released a comparison of the original and restored versions of Snow White , which you can see below.

The opportunity to help bring back Snow White was both an honor and a challenge. As Walt Disney’s first film, Mike Giaimo and I felt we owed a debt to the story to make it look as beautiful and true to the original colors as possible. The muted palette and delicate watercolor backgrounds evoke the illustrated fairy tales that Walt loved, and the story and characters resonate to this day. I hope our work will inspire future generations of animation artists to fully appreciate the masterful talent and care that went into this groundbreaking film.

– Goldberg said.

We are incredibly excited to return to Walt’s original negative and use today’s state-of-the-art technology to restore this stunning classic to its original beauty.

– added Kevin Schaeffer, director of Restoration at Walt Disney Studios.

Who appears in the production?

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is the first full-length animated film in the history of cinema and the first full-length production by Walt Disney. It stars Adriana Caselotti as Snow White, Lucille La Verne as the Evil Queen/Witch, Harry Stockwell as the Prince, Moroni Olsen as the Magic Mirror, and Roy Atwell, Pinto Colvig, Eddie Collins, Billy Gilbert, Stuart Buchanan, Scotty Mattraw and Otis Harlan as dwarves. The film was released in 1937 and received a special honorary Academy Award at the Oscars along with seven smaller Oscars.
