What’s your attention span?
Are you perceptive, or maybe you just think so? How many will you remember in ten seconds? Maybe you are a smart man or you can use real magic to outplay your opponents? Observe, investigate, remember, because if you lack your cunning, defeat will hurt a lot.
The BrainBox series is not a recent invention, but rather an older, interesting idea with some great twists. The mechanics are the same, only the subject is variable. The version with Harry Potter is both a nod to fans and a treat for them. Not only can you re-enter the world of your favorite hero, but also check the state of your knowledge about movies based on the JK Rowling series.
A box, box on the desk…
The box with the game is made of solid cardboard closed with a magnet. In the middle there are two compartments, one holds cards: fifty-five games and one with the rules, the other: an hourglass and an eight-sided dice. When it comes to the appearance, the graphics are really nice, legible, the colors are well-chosen, and the golden elements complete the whole and refer to the Harry universe.
What’s the difficulty?
The rules are quite easy and rely heavily on the mindfulness of the participants. The first player flips the hourglass, takes a card from the box, and looks at it within ten seconds, remembering as much detail as possible. He then passes the sheet to the next person and rolls the die. The drawn number of spots indicates the question to be answered. The person, holding the card, reads the indicated phrase, and the declarer has to answer it, then his words are verified with the picture. If he is right, he keeps the card, if not, he puts it in the box and it is the next person’s turn. Participants repeat activities. The one who scores the most points in ten minutes wins!
BrainBox – Harry Potter has several types of puzzles. In the first one you can find interesting facts, quotes and scenes from the movies, in the second there are questions about the subject of magic and everything related to it. The difficulty level is different, you can find something banal or something that is quite a problem, even for seasoned potteromianians.
Time to use your brain
BrainBox is one of my favorite series if I want to think a little and make an effort. The effects are different, but the joy is still the same. I like that people of all ages can find themselves in this series of games. The version in question is intended for people from the age of eight, which for me is a value contract, because even the younger ones should be able to handle it. And you can play solo, but it is known that the more people, the merrier.
This version does not differ from the others, because it teaches and tests knowledge of a given subject at the same time. It is known that in this case it is a bit limited compared to other editions, but that does not mean that the fun is worse.
A little rasp
One of the things that surprised me a bit and somewhat saddened me was checking knowledge from the Harry Potter adaptation, not the books. I am not saying that any edition is worse or better, but the paper version was the first. It was possible to combine these two forms. If I have to stick to something, it’s that sometimes the closing magnet lets off and the box opens, and the cards can fall out easily.
Can I manage?
The gameplay is satisfying, but that doesn’t mean it will be stress-free. The relentlessly passing time can throw even the greatest Stoics off balance. Randomness in the selection of cards or different levels of questions is somewhat of a challenge, because you never know what you will end up at. Interestingly, there is not only one form of questions, in one case it may be open-ended, and in another, there are several answers to choose from.
Lots of possibilities
The fact that there is no upper limit of participants is an interesting solution. In addition, the rules can be freely adapted to each other. For example, you choose not to rotate the hourglass once, but twice, then you have more time to go through the details. If we want, we play solo, if not – as a team. The length of the game can be freely operated, shortened or extended. We are limited only by the decision of our fellow guests.
Only for fans?
What if someone is not a fan of the Harry Potter universe? Nothing prevents him from participating as well. The variety of questions makes it a universal edition, not only for great enthusiasts. Everything is based on mindfulness, cleverness and visual memory, the subject matter is an addition to the whole. It is known that knowing the world can help, but not always.
I recommend it if the form and type of entertainment convince you. A small box hides a lot of possibilities and opportunities for interesting spending time with your loved ones. The Harry Potter themes are definitely a nice change, and the title will expand your fan resources. If you don’t know BrainBoxes yet , you must try your hand at it!
