Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers and Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers 2 games were created as part of the cooperation of Capcom and Disney corporations, on the basis of which we could also play Duck Tales or Darkwing Duck on NES . All titles featured cartoon heroes and, most importantly, of high quality. Distinctive sounds and graphics that allow you to easily recognize your favorite protagonists was the peak of the dreams of children born between 1980 and 1990 **.
Complementary goods
The titles debuted on the market in the first half of the 1990s, at a time when the animated adventures of the RR Brigade were still broadcast in the West. In the productions, we play the characters of Chip and Dale – the main characters of the series, supported by Gadget and Rockford mice and the Bzyczek bow tie. The challenges that await us do not differ from those known to us from the screens – in both parts we cross the plans of the sinister Fatty persian, who is capable of anything to achieve his goals. During our adventures, we save Gadget, we struggle with machines straight from science fiction movies, and we even deal with paranormal phenomena.
I CHAIR IT, CHAIR!
The gameplay is classic and uncomplicated – we travel from the left to the right side of the screen, avoiding or eliminating enemies on the way, at the end we defeat the boss and move on to the next stage. In order to do this, we have to fight our way through the hosts of unwelcome people, throwing at them items found along the way, incl. stones, balls, cartons and apples. PETA cannot say anything bad, because not only is it a necessary defense, but also the defeated opponents do not die, but fly diagonally across the screen to an unknown place. There are also more arcade stages – an example is the cooler from the sequel, when we have to beat the entire level in three minutes. Additionally, both parts feature simultaneous multiplayer. Its biggest advantage is definitely the ability to grab your companion and throw it like a cardboard box or simply transport it on your back. Wearing a teammate begins with a joyous surprise that gradually gives way to frustration, especially when the ability to knock a companion is abused.
2 > 1
Even before the rebound of both titles, I wondered why I remembered the second part of the adventures of the RR Brigade much better. I was able to more or less identify the ending bosses for each level of the sequel and the final opponent, and even knew the melody of the key fights in the game. I found the answer quite quickly – the first game was good, but also – in my opinion – underdeveloped. I felt deceived – the buttons (especially the jump) had a noticeable delay, the character hitboxes were larger than our hero (I felt like I was playing a square), as a result of which I had the impression many times that I was hit by something that was not supposed to hit me. Well, that’s the charm of the old games. Fortunately for me, the adventure with the first part is not long (about an hour), so I sat down to the second part from the walk and my experience was much better. Everything worked as it should, and I could only explain any failures with my clumsiness.
In search of meaning
The shortcomings of the first part are not limited to the character models. Throughout the game, we constantly collect a coin replacement – flower stamps. Unfortunately, we are not able to find out what they really are for. You can guess that if you collect a lot of them in one level, you are rewarded with an extra life, but the Fatty knows exactly how much you need to get it. The breakthrough discovery of the Capcom team while working on the sequel was the change of flower stamps to collectibles bearing the RR initials and the addition of a stage summary screen, thanks to which we could find out how many of them we accumulated during the round and how many extra lives we gained thanks to this.
It used to be
Despite my spite, these are definitely great games, and anyone with them in the attic should dust them off. A fat dog, an ostrich on a unicycle, a cat with cards or a rabbit on a dish soap dispenser are sure to wait for you to show them a place in the row once again. All those who were not given the best and only right console, I send to Steam, where there is a collection of 6 Capcom games licensed by Disney.
