This year’s D23 Expo showed us that you can really fly. On Friday, during the Walt Disney Studios panel, fans had a first glimpse of Peter Pan and Wendy , the newest acting remake that will be joining the Disney collection. For the film, which will debut in 2023, the first official trailer has already been created, and those gathered at D23 could see the materials from the production.
We will have to wait a little longer for the publication of materials on the web. Meanwhile, Jamie Jirak from ComicBook.com has already seen the presentation and shared a short description:
It begins with Wendy arriving in Neverland and meeting lost boys there, including some girls. This is basically Peter Pan , but now his story is much less related to that of Wendy.
The title duo of Peter Pan and Wendy will be played by Alexander Molony and Ever Anderson. In addition to them, the cast will include Yara Shahidi (Tinkerbell), Jude Law (Captain Hook), Jim Gaffigan (Smee), Alan Tudyk (George Darling) and Molly Parker (Mary Darling). The director will be David Lowery, known from the movie My Friend Dragon , where he has already shown his unconventional approach to cult productions.
I hesitate to use the word mundane because there will be fairies and flying kids, but when I went to talk to the studio about it, I said, ‘What if you stay true to the original, get over the shortcomings of both the novels and the animated film of course, and finally to treat the movie like a phantom ? What if I had done A Phantom but with flying children? ‘ And they liked it. […] More or less the idea was to create something expressive, down-to-earth, but it’s still a joyful world full of enthusiasm and magic, so that’s why I don’t want to use the word “down-to-earth”.
