Like all of Stephen King’s best stories, Pet Sematary not only provides readers with a rich world full of terrifying mythology, but also serves as an allegory for many more existential themes. Given its storytelling potential, it’s no surprise that the novel first inspired a 1989 film, then a 1992 sequel, and an adaptive reboot in 2019. The next live-action chapter in the series is Pet Sematary: Bloodlines , which focuses on on a specific chapter of the source material and develops those elements in exciting ways. The new prequel was directed by Lindsey Anderson Beer, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Jeff Buhler, the screenwriter of the 2019 reboot.
What can we expect from the latest adaptation?
The official description of the film reads as follows:
In 1969, young Jud Crandall dreams of leaving his hometown of Ludlow, Maine, but soon discovers its sinister secrets and is forced to confront a dark family history that will forever bind him to Ludlow. Joining forces, Jud and his childhood friends must fight an ancient evil that has plagued Ludlow since its founding, once discovered it has the power to destroy everything in its path.
Pet Sematary: Bloodlines lands on Paramount+ on October 6! We hope that the prequel will finally give this fantastic novel a worthy film adaptation.
