After quite a successful debut of The State of the Past with stories set in Gotham, after the October Superman, we finally get an interesting volume, with numerous threads that are interestingly led, and the reader - even a new one - will not get lost .
Tom about the league, no league
Some people may be surprised by this subtitle. Why? Because here we don’t get one whole story about a group of superheroes or even chapters telling only about the greatest DC Comics team. We have a collection of notebooks where each group is dedicated to a different superhero. We can see Flash – Barry Allen’s dilemmas regarding the age-old dispute between science and mysticism. In addition, we can learn more about the adventures of magical superheroes or the further fate of Aquaman and Mera’s daughter. Only the last two issues introduce us to the new Justice League.
The volume itself opens with a story with Yara Flor – Latina Wonder Girl. Personally, I’m in love with this character. We get here a wonderful woman for our times – eloquent, barked at times, liberated, reckless, intelligent, taking care of herself, and at the same time caring and knowing her limits, who knows that this time peace is needed not by people, but by gods. I think that many readers will enjoy communing with the story of this heroine. Another important issue is the fact that its origin is certainly a big nod to Brazilian fans, because in Latin America DC enjoys the greatest popularity. I even know who could portray this heroin on the big screen.
New DC in a good old version
First, about the graphic layer. This volume is a collection of various talents of the American comics scene who have done an extraordinary job. Every page looks fantastic and the character designs are top notch. Even the villains look cool, which makes me feel unsatisfied that there is no proper action sequence with them. Each plan is well thought out, so details do not cause nystagmus. This was one of Superman’s ills. State of the Future , where we not only had a chaotic narrative like most modern Marvel comics, but also “stabbed” the frames with unnecessary elements. Here, the landscapes of oceanic waters, abandoned cities, afterlife, or urban metropolises have their own unique character. Also abandoned after the “apocalypse” of the Hall of Justice.
Justice League. Future State is almost 300 pages long and delivers stunning visuals, emotional upheaval, action and intrigue. All this means that we will not be bored for a moment, and some calming action will allow us to think. If you missed the individual lines, treat yourself to this extraordinary treasury of wonder and imagination. Every self-respecting DC Comics fan needs a copy of this volume on their shelf.
Quite faithful edition to the original
In a review of the volume Batman. Future State mentioned that he was neutered for stories with Nightwing, Katana or Batgirl. This time we got a pretty faithful copy of the American collection (but without the chapter with the Keepers, which is largely not very important, and we get a story with a new, young, Latina Wonder Girl). The only objection I have to the cover, on which again there was no information about two notebooks, specifically those that concern the Dark Justice League. If someone is a big fan of the magic of the DC Universe and does not see these notebooks listed on the cover, they can miss a piece of quite an interesting volume.
After this volume, my desire to learn about the stories of other characters increased. I admit that while the comic from this series, in which Batman was the main protagonist, I read quite well, all the enthusiasm was extinguished by Superman. In fact, the introduction of an additional volume about heroes who are marginalized in our market piqued my interest. A tear came to my eye as I read the story of the new Doctor Fate’s sacrifice. Egmont , maybe we could bring this character closer to our readers and publish some of his solo series? Soon there will be a reset of the multiverse again, this time probably without a big event, but this transitional moment, which was the State of the Future, will definitely stay in my memory for a long time . And he didn’t need any advertising for that.
