After a long wait, we will finally see new episodes of The Witcher soon . The season will be released in two parts and will debut on Netflix on June 29.
Over the past few months, we’ve learned that the story will be partly borrowed from the book A Time of Contempt, so fans of the source material should have an idea of what to expect. However, those less familiar with the books may be surprised by one of the upcoming twists! As noted by Redanian Intelligence, the Urban Species store has released several merchandise that features characters from the series.
SPOILER WARNING!
The artwork presented on the website includes projects focusing on several heroes, including Geralt, Ciri, Yennefer and Jaskier. However, there is also a print of villains including Emperor Emhyr, Fringilla, Cahir and Vilgefortz. This last inclusion is a bit of a surprise, as the role of Vilgefortz, working for the Nilfgaardian Empire, is something of a plot twist. In Time of Contempt, Geralt meets the aforementioned mage for the first time at a party on the island of Thanedd. With time, he also discovers his true face. The image below is of Vilgefortz and was provided by Netflix.
One of the biggest complaints from viewers about The Witcher is that it doesn’t follow the source material as closely as many would like. Showrunner Lauren Hissrich has indicated that season 3 will be a bit more of a close-up, as there are a lot of important developments to cover. This spoiler seems to back up that claim, and it looks like viewers can look forward to a number of key character moments and events from A Time of Contempt in season 3. Fidelity doesn’t always mean quality, but for fans of Andrzej Sapkowski’s works , it all sounds very promising. I hope those less familiar with the books will be able to avoid such spoilers!
