In the new series from Amazon “The Lord of the Rings”, Morfydd Clark was cast as a young Galadriel – an actress known, among others, from the film “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” and the series “Dark Materie”. See what else we know about the new “Lord of the Rings”!
We have just learned that the role of a young Galadriel (an elf from the royal family of the Ñoldor tribe) will be Morfydd Clark (known for example from the series Dark Materials from HBO , films Pride and Prejudice and Zombies , Creeping Death ). The previously announced cast already includes Markella Kavenagh as the main character of Tyr, Joseph Mawle (known for his role as Benjen Stark in Game of Thrones ) as the villain Oren, and Maxim Baldry. Will Poulter recently retired from the role of Beldor.
More and more information is slowly emerging about Amazon’s new fantasy series based on the JRR Tolkien trilogy . We already know that the series will not coincide with the story known from the movies and will present completely different threads from the mythology of Middle-earth from the Second Age. According to Tom Shippey, the author of Tolkien’s biography, Amazon can add a lot from itself while maintaining the main themes and chronology of Tolkien’s novels.
Amazon is relatively free to add something because, as I said, very few details are known about this period. The Tolkien Estate ( Tolkien’s copyright foundation – editorial footnote) will not allow the main shape of the Second Age to be changed. Sauron attacks Eriador, is forced to return from Númenorean, returns to Númenor. There he bribes the Númenoreans and deceives them into breaking the Valar’s prohibition. All this, the course of history, must remain the same.
But you can add new characters and ask lots of questions like: What has Sauron done in the meantime? Where was he after defeating Morgoth? In theory, Amazon can answer these questions by coming up with answers because Tolkien didn’t describe it. But he cannot contradict what Tolkien said. This is what Amazon needs to be careful about. It must be canonical, the boundaries Tolkien made cannot be changed, it must remain “Tolkien”.
Amazon believes in the show’s success and has even ordered a second season: The Lord of the Rings from Amazon for the second season
