Before the weekend, the Black Mirror star released a rumor that he was getting ready for the role. Now James Gunn, the film’s director, has confirmed his new position in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He even created a welcome message on Twitter:
As you know, I cut false rumors a lot, so… um… Will Poulter, welcome to the Guardians family. He is an amazing actor and a great man. See you in a few weeks. #AdamWarlock # GotGVol3.
According to information from Gunn, shooting for the film will begin soon. Last month, Karen Gillan said production would start in late October.
After the final part of the movie, and mostly the post-credits scene, fans have long suspected that Warlock would somehow appear in the third installment. Even then, Gunn was very secretive about the characters’ involvement in the film. At one point, it was speculated that a Warlock character would appear in Avengers: Infinity War as he is central to the Marvel storyline. Joe Russo commented on this:
We have many predetermined characters, sometimes even book characters. Again, I emphasize that I am a comic book fan and would not like to see a literal interpretation of a title that I have read hundreds of times because I don’t want to go to the movies and know exactly what will happen. As for me, it spoils the sense of going to the cinema and enjoying the film. Sometimes we take plots that are assigned to one heroes in a book and assign them to someone else entirely. We are simply inspired by books and really deviate from the plot, especially if the hero does not fit into the Marvel universe.
The first two Guardians of the Galaxy movies are now available on Disney +, and the third installment is slated to hit theaters on May 5, 2023. I Am Groot and Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special have no dates yet.
