Warner Bros. Pictures has announced that the upcoming Joker sequel , officially titled Joker: Films A Deux , will be released on October 4, 2024, exactly five years after the original film’s release. Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix will return to the film, with director Todd Phillips behind the camera, who co-wrote the script with Scott Silver. Earlier it was reported that Lady Gaga is going to play the role of Harley Quinn. According to Deadline, production will start in December.
Following the Joker’s success in 2019, when the film grossed over $ 1 billion and was nominated for eleven Academy Awards (with two wins), talks about a sequel have been steadily present for the past three years. Phillips has officially confirmed the title of the Joker sequel. The subtitle Folie à deux refers to a medical condition in which two or more people become delusional. Initially, this led many to believe that Harley Quinn would be involved in this project. According to a report by The Wrap, much of the movie takes place inside Gotham City’s Arkham Asylum.
