Greta Gerwig is currently working on the Barbie movie coming in 2023 . She gained the greatest popularity thanks to productions such as Lady Bird and Little Women. There are plans for her to work with Netflix to create new adventures from the world of Narnia.
The platform made a deal with book author CS Lewis back in 2018. However, neither the movies nor the series have even reached the pre-production stage. What’s on Netflix reports that Gerwig could direct the first two reboots of the classic The Chronicles of Narnia .
What will be Netflix’s first Narnia?
Each of CS Lewis’s seven novels is original enough to be the starting point for another. The author’s letter to Patricia Baird reveals his view of the planned adaptations. The man wouldn’t want a live-action movie to be made. He thinks half-animal characters would look ridiculous or hideous.
However, there are two most likely parts that Netflix would start with. The first, but also the most famous: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and the never-before-adapted The Magician’s Nephew. Especially the second of them could be successful. The lack of other screenings would provide the platform with some kind of freshness and no comparison to other productions.
When can we expect the movie?
Unfortunately, it may take some time before production starts. In addition to working on Barbie , Greta Gerwig is also working on the script for Disney’s Snow White , which is due to premiere in 2024, and is taking part in another Netflix production, White Noise.
