Sushi Go Party! is a game about composing the most delicious dishes on your plate (in the play area). The goal is, of course, to score as many points as possible by collecting the best card combinations possible.
The composition of the sushi set:
– 181 sushi cards (23 types),
– 22 menu tiles
– 8 pawns each in a different color for each player,
– a board with a score track and a place to put food tiles,
– instruction.
How to make sushi?
Before starting the game, we choose a set of cards, which consists of: 1 nigiri (which are used in each game), 1 roll, 3 starters, two special cards and one dessert. We can choose the combinations proposed by the author or come up with our own. Place the food tiles on the board and select appropriate cards. Then we shuffle the cards according to the rules given in the manual and start the game. The game lasts for 3 rounds. During each of them, players are dealt 7-10 cards in their hand (depending on the number of players), choose one card and keep it facedown so that other players cannot see which card has been chosen. Then, the four cards chosen by the players are played face up on the table. The rest of the cards are passed to the player on the left.
From the cards received, players choose one card again to reveal, and pass the remaining cards on. The round continues until all cards run out. When this happens, the points for that round are scored. Score all dishes except desserts for which points are scored at the end of the game. After scoring and marking the points on the score track, the second round begins. Again, 7-10 cards are dealt (depending on the number of players), and then the game is similar to the one in the first round. The player with the most points wins and everyone envies him the tastiest food on the plate.
Why did I like it?
– easily written instructions;
– simple and easy to explain rules;
– replayability is ensured by 23 types of cards that we compose into an eight-component menu
(8 variants are proposed in the starting instructions, but you can also create many of your own);
– you can play up to 8 people;
– there is no downtime because we all play at the same time;
– short game time;
– it scales well, i.e. both 2 and 8 people are fun to play, but the fewer people, the greater the control;
– a board that allows you to lay out menu tiles (for cards that are playing in the current round, this gives a full overview of the currently played variant) and has a score track, which was missing in the basic version of Sushi Go! ;
– a compact full of compartments holds and organizes cards well;
– the performance of the menu cards is at a good level;
– a must for sushi lovers;
– climatic pawns for marking points in the shape of bottles with soy sauce;
– a very good proposition for beginners and impatient players;
– perfect for family events and more, and as a starter before larger titles (just as a warm-up).
What turned out to be not tasty?
– it may seem too simple for experienced players;
– the pieces in the compact very easily fall out of their pocket and move around the whole box;
– the metal box looks nice, but it breaks quickly and is too large for its contents, which makes the game more difficult to transport compared to its predecessor, Sushi Go! ;
– not everyone may like the subject of smiling sushi.
Game Sushi Go Party! it’s even more of the “clever” game that many players got to know thanks to Sushi Go . The simplicity of the rules, but at the same time the original gameplay, makes it a game that I can recommend to everyone. Both a person who has never played board games and a board geek will find something for themselves in it. For new players (small and a little bigger) it is an interesting proposition which is a great invitation to the world of board games. Old players will find in it a simplified version of the 7 Wonders of the World , which can be played “for tea”, in a noisy pub when there is no space on the table, or as an introductory part before a big title.
I sincerely recommend you to try it!
