The actor was born on January 6, 1982 in London. He began his education at Jackie Palmer School, and then continued his studies at the prestigious Eton College, being in the same year with Prince William. From there he went to the University of Cambridge, where he graduated with honors in art history. In addition to acting, he was also involved in modeling. His first campaign was created in cooperation with the Burberry clothing brand and lasted until 2012. He also appeared in commercials for Prada, Omega and a social campaign promoting Red Nose Days. In 2015, he was awarded the Order of the British Empire.
He began his acting career in 1997, starring in the series Animal Ark as John Hardy. He later starred in the television miniseries Elizabeth I as Southampton and in the film Elizabeth: The Golden Age as Babington. By the time of the Tudors, he later returned in the film Lovers of the King , playing William Stafford. In 2010, he appeared in The Pillars of the Earth as Jack, and a year later appeared in the movie My Week in Marilyn as Colin Clark. In 2012, he starred in the film Les Misérables: Les Misérables , where he played the role of Marius. Until now, however, his greatest success was the role of Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everythingfor which he was awarded an Oscar. In 2015, he appeared as Lili Elbe in the movie The Girl from the Portrait , and a year later he appeared in the most recognizable production for fantasy fans. He then starred as Newt Scamander in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them , and the sequel to The Crimes of Grindelwald. Interestingly, he had the opportunity to appear in the Harry Potter universe before. He was originally assigned to the role of Tom Riddle in the Chamber of Secrets , but after reading the script, he quit his participation in the film and went to Christian Coulson.
