The Flintstones sequel Bedrock has announced its voice cast. The animated series finally made its way to a pilot presentation on Fox – two years after announcing it was in development.
It was revealed that Stephen Root, Amy Sedaris, Nicole Byer, Joe Lo Truglio and Manny Jacinto will join executive producer Elizabeth Banks as the voices of the series. Bedrock is set around iconic animated characters some 20 years after The Flintstones series .
According to Deadline, Root plays Fred, Sedaris plays Wilma, Byer plays Betty, Truglio plays Barney, and Jacinto plays Bamm-Bamm. Banks voices Pebbles. In what is billed as a “adult prime-time show”, Fred is on the verge of retirement while Pebbles, now in her twenties, tries to start her own career as the Stone Age gives way to the Bronze Age and the people of Bedrock regard the shift as hard.
The series is produced by Warner Bros Animation and Fox Entertainment. Banks is executive producing alongside Max Handelman through Brownstone Productions. Lindsay Kerns will write the script and serve as co-executive producer. Lon Zimmet is also a writer and executive producer. The series will be Fox’s latest animated project, which also has titles such as Krapopolis , The Simpsons , Family Guy and Bob’s Burgers .
Long before The Simpsons and Springfield , there were The Flintstones and Bedrock . Their impact on the world of animation is undeniable, and the idea of adapting it for today’s audience is a challenge we here at FOX look forward to. Working with Warner Bros, Elizabeth Banks and Lindsay Kerns is amazing. We don’t really feel any pressure.
said Michael Thorn, president of FOX Entertainment.
