Tom Marvolo Riddle was born on December 31, 1926. Though his mother gave him this name at birth, most know him as Lord Voldemort. Who was the wizard before he became the Dark Lord, so powerful that he remains one of the most terrible antagonists in fantasy history to date?
As a boy, he always felt different. Raised in a normal human orphanage, he was known for his cruelty and distance from his peers. He quickly learned about his magical abilities, using them to his own advantage and often against others. Tom’s life, as in the case of the main character, changed completely on the day of his 11th birthday. He was then visited by Albus Dumbledore, who announced that he would take the boy to a special school for wizards. From that moment on, he considered himself even more special than the children he grew up with.
Of course, at Hogwarts, he was only successful and liked by almost all the teachers. The only one immune to his charm was Dumbledore, who quickly learned about his true nature. The boy’s interest in black magic was also growing. As a fosterling of the Salazar Slytherin household, he despised anyone who was not born into a so-called family. “Pure blood”, although he was not from one himself. His mother, Meropa, although a witch, fell in love with a Muggle man – Tom Riddle, after whom she later named her son. Knowing that the rich gentleman would never pay attention to the poor and unattractive girl, she gave him a love potion. From this false relationship, Lord Voldemort was soon born. Eventually, she gave up feeding him with the potion, hoping to give their love a chance. However, this did not happen. The sorcerer’s father soon left his pregnant mother, and she gave her son to a Muggle orphanage before her death. The weakness of his mother, who should have been a strong witch, intensified his contempt for everything that belonged to the world of normal people.
At school, he also began gathering a large group of admirers who blindly served his leader. Most of them later became the first Death Eaters, that is, sorcerers and witches to support Voldemort’s brutal actions. Soon their actions became commonplace and bolder and more daring, and the Muggles perished from the day of the fillings, along with the wizards defending them. The wizarding world was quickly overwhelmed by the war between the Death Eaters and the Order of the Phoenix, which tried to fight the murderers. However, a legendary prophecy stood in the way of Voldemort, which prompted him to get rid of the then-year-old boy who was to put an end to his enormous power. Harry Potter was the only one to survive the fatal spell that robbed Tom of his power. Peace reigned in the wizarding world again, though not for long.
