“Perfectionism is a disease”
This is the motto of the book. The main character, Maksymilian Okrągły, for Square’s friends is a perfectionist. He always strives to use his time as efficiently as possible and, moreover, he wants to be the best at everything. He tries to get the best grades at all costs, and each failure arouses his anger, irritation and, at the same time, a sense of guilt. Whenever Maks makes a mistake, he feels an urgent need to punish himself by self-harm. Anyway, this is not his only problem, because he feels a certain superiority towards other people, and therefore has a problem with establishing relationships. To make matters worse, one day Square notices a person who looks exactly like him. What is worst, however, this individual accuses him of somehow and wants to kill him in retaliation. Can this be real or is it just a figment of your imagination? In addition, there is also a topic related to the police, specifically with Commissioner Papaj, who is trying to find out the truth about Maks and his alleged double.
Bad twin brother?
The main character is indeed an interesting character – it is difficult to like him, but it cannot be denied that he can quickly intrigue him. Watching his morbid perfectionism destroy him is moving and enlightening. The author has placed many interesting scenes here, and Maks’ reactions to, for example, delays in public transport or leaving the key in the lock are perfectly presented. In addition, I noticed that I had a lot in common with both Round and the author who used several ideas from the autopsy. For this reason, this novel touched me all the more. Indeed, for me it is a masterful psychological thriller with elements of horror. I also do not want to delve too much into the intricacies of the plot, because in every respect we are dealing with a brilliantly written novel, and everyone should find out for themselves. To tell the truth, I set myself up for a typical middle-class man, and I got a piece that was simply amazing. It is true that it resembles a typical horror movie or thriller in its structure, but it is the details that makeThe paradox can make such a deep impression on the reader, especially if he has problems with anger.
Is it worth studying mathematics?
Paradox is a great novel, and the main character is intriguing from the very beginning. His habits, behavior and way of thinking have all been rendered perfectly. I liked, for example, that Maks checked the address on the package many times to make sure that he did not make any mistakes, all because of the “what if I missed something …” thoughts. The topic of Commissioner Papaj and his problematic investigation has also been presented in an interesting way. Not only that, I must admit that the author scratched one of the best MPs that I have read. So far I have not been interested in the works of Artur Urbanowicz, but after reading Paradox, I know that it was a mistake. It’s really worth knowing the story of Maks Round!
On the principle that perfectionism is a disease, I’m not going to be picking on that one typo I came across. Thus, I can confidently say that the Vesper publishing house did a great job. The cover has its charm, and more importantly, it attracts attention, but it did not appeal to me personally.
