The game, entitled Heroes of Hyrule , was to be released on the Nintendo DS around 2004, unfortunately the lack of official approval from Nintendo never allowed the production to go beyond the concept stage. DidYouKnowGaming posted a video on their channel with previously unknown information about the unfinished project:
An interesting fact is that this edition was not supposed to focus on the character of Link or Princess Zelda , but known from Ocarina of TimeSheika. Taking this into account, we were not supposed to play the role of a warrior we already know, but we would be guided by the fate of a boy named Kori, who found the mysterious book. 100 years before the events of the game, Ganon kidnapped Zelda, and Link, after a failed rescue attempt, is also captured. Fortunately, Link’s three friends, Goron (Dunar), Rito (Seriph), and Zora (Krel), join forces to save him. Each of the heroes was supposed to represent one aspect of Triforce. After his defeat, Ganon returned to the mystical spellbook when suddenly his soul was imprisoned. Unable to burn the book, the heroes tore all the pages from it, scattering them across the land so that Ganon would never return.
The game would start in typical Zelda style with the players controlling Kori. After the book was discovered, the boy read about the past of the Kingdom of Hyrule. Here, the gameplay would take on a strategic flair, which was supposed to be the main element of the game. The rest of the game space was taken by Kori, carrying out tasks for the townspeople in exchange for new pages to the magic book (unaware that this way Ganon would return).
