A few days ago, photos from “reading the script” hit the network. We didn’t have to wait long for the next materials. Here are some of the main characters of the upcoming production – Rhaenyra and Daemon Targaryen. Photos from the House of the Dragon were taken on one of the beaches in Cornwall – Holywell Bay Beach.
The plot of the prequel tells the story of the Targaryen family. Our main focus is the Dance of the Dragons – the succession conflict between Rhaenyra and her brother, Aegon II. As a consequence, it led to a civil war, the weakening of the dynasty and the country, and the loss of both subjects and members of the family. Many dragons also died, and the later ones were weaker, and consequently completely extinct.
One of the heroes of the series is Daemon Targaryen played by Matt Smith ( The Crown , ” Doctor Who ). Prince Daemon was a dragon rider and warrior, younger brother of King Viserys I, the fifth ruler of the dynasty. He married his niece and heir to the throne – Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy). Together they had two sons who became kings.
Relationships between close relatives were quite common for members of this family. Queen Daenerys Targaryen (Dany), the heroine of Game of Thrones, was born out of such a marriage – her parents were siblings. Therefore, very often Targaryen children were born deformed, with various physical and mental illnesses.
Season 1 will be directed by Clare Kilner, Geeta Patel and Greg Yaitanes. The showrunners of the series are: Miguel Sapochnik and Ryan Condel. The former also worked on Game of Thrones .
George RR Martin, the author of the A Song of Ice and Fire saga, co-creates the House of Dragon series .
The script was based on the novel by the writer Fire and Blood . The first season will consist of 10 episodes. The premiere of the series on HBO Max in 2022.
