The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Disney is working on a third part of the film. The Princess Diaries 3 will be a continuation of the series, not just a reboot. Anne Hathaway expresses her desire to participate in the production.
The Princess Diaries from 2001 is actually a film adaptation of Meg Cabot’s book of the same name. The film starring Anne Hathaway was a huge success around the world. In 2004, the second part was created, which was also very successful. No wonder Disney’s plans aroused such interest.
What is the movie about?
The world of a shy teenager suddenly turns upside down. The girl finds out that her father was the prince of Genovia. Even though she didn’t even know him, she is the sole heir to the throne. Her life changes 360 degrees, and taking power causes her a lot of trouble.

Who can we expect on screen again?
Unfortunately, the director of the first 2 parts of the film, Garry Marshall passed away in 2016, which is regretted by many people. However, the producer, Debra Martin Chase, will remain the same. Oddly enough, Anne Hathaway still has no signed contract with Disney. However, the actress is very interested in returning to production and hopes that it will be possible. She would also like to get Julie Andrews (Queen of Genovia) involved. Here, however, things get a bit more complicated. Andrews comments:
I think it would be too late to do that now. There was talk of a sequel many, many years ago, but I don’t think it ever came to fruition. And then Garry left us. Especially for me, it’s too far away to go back to it. It’s a nice thought, but I don’t think it would be possible.
However, we hope that we will be able to persuade the actress to return. And you? Let me know in the comment!
