Women’s and Men’s Adventures – review of the comic book “The Smurfs and the Girl’s Village” vol. 4

There are only… Smurf girls living in the Girls’ Village! The latest comic book by Egmont – New Beginning – is the fourth part of the series. Take a look with us what’s in the comic!

Introduction

The fairy-tale race of blue creatures has been functioning in culture since 1963. The Smurfs and the Girl Village is a series whose theme refers to the events of the cinema movie about the heroes of the Enchanted Forest, The Smurfs: Raiders of the Lost Village . The originator of the Smurfs was Pierre ‘Peyo’ Culliford (1928-1992), after his death, the work on comics is continued by scriptwriters and cartoonists cooperating with the son of the Belgian artist, Thierry Culliford. Volume 4 –  A New Beginning  – was filled with text by the descendant of the cartoonist together with Luc Partoens, while the authors of the drawings are Laurent Cagniat and Paolo Maddaleni.

Good bad starts?

In the notebook in question, the charges of the wise Willow must look for a new place to live, because their tree houses burned down (thanks to Gargamel, of course). The heroines are accompanied by brave Smurfs (including Papa Smerf, Maruda, Wazniak and Osiłek), but the journey will not be easy. Because forests, mountains and swamps await them, and the effect of the escapade is uncertain. However, when the desired place is found, nothing can stand in the way of the Smurfs – they must build a new home for their nice cousins as soon as possible. Willow, however, refuses to allow her charges to live in shacks from now on, so late at night she rolls up her sleeves and begins to prepare a mysterious mixture. Unfortunately, the number of ingredients is very limited, and in order to get them, you have to generate a lot of smurf desire.

Smurf relationships

It should be noted that the series The Smurfs and the Girl’s Village is another offer from the Peyo universe that you should pay attention to. Although the first part of this series appeared in Egmont’s announcements four years ago, the notebooks are still published and, importantly, it happens at a time similar to the editions of the francophone originals. The reviewed notebook dispels doubts about the number of Smurf ladies living in the world (as it is commonly known, Smurfette was the creation of the sorcerer Gargamel, so it should not be taken into account). Summarizing these considerations, The Smurfs and Girls Village series is a feminized equivalent of the Smurfs Village, created by Peyo. The adventures of Willow, Begonia, Burza, Dandelion and other girls will surely appeal to the female readership.

Close to the present day

This spin-off is a completely different proposition than the ones Peyo got used to. The village, where only female representatives live, is regularly visited by male heroes, but the action focuses primarily on the adventures of girls. The New Beginning is a compact story. While reading, we will probably cheer on the heroines in their search for a new place to live, and unexpected twists may catch our hearts. The aesthetics of the notebook differs from the one we know from the original series – this is mainly due to the thicker line, greater variety of backgrounds and artistic elements that fit in with modern animation standards.
