In one of the latest interviews, series creator and showrunner Steve Blackman stated that he knows what might happen in season four of Umbrella Academy , also revealing that he has already spoken to Netflix representatives about it and it will probably be the final chapter for this extraordinary team.
If we get Season 4, it will likely be for the rest of the story. We have to be careful. My plan for next year is not to keep treading on the same terrain as before. I’m going to come up with a new way to portray this plot, and I think I have a good idea of how to do it. I also believe that if we had gotten to Season 4, it would have been a great ending to the series as a whole. I’m not going to say that I couldn’t do more, but you know, I think it would be very satisfying for the audience, Blackman said in an interview with TheWrap .
Blackman revealed that he had an idea of what the four seasons of the show would look like from the start, but also noted that if there were to be more episodes he would be able to do so as well.
I have no idea where I will go after Season 4 if of course we are lucky enough to have more, but I will definitely come up with something. After all, at the moment I have four seasons of history in my head. I know where I want to go. I know where I want to end and I hope the fans will be happy with it. I have a plan.
Earlier, speaking to ComicBook.com, Blackman revealed that he had been in contact with comic book creators Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá from the start, revealing that they shared their plans for the comic’s source material with him. The Blackman TV adaptation has already moved away from comic books in many ways, perhaps meaning that the show’s ending won’t necessarily be the same as the comic’s ending.
