Denis Villeneuve’s Dune premiered to an eight-minute standing ovation at the 2021 Venice International Film Festival. Dune: Part Two will not have the same honor due to the date of this year’s event.

This year’s 80th Venice Film Festival will take place from August 30 to September 9. It’s way too early for the second part of the film, which will be released in theaters on November 3. The sequel to Villeneuve’s Dune may yet premiere at another festival – according to Deadline . One possibility is the 61st annual New York Film Festival, which returns at Lincoln Center from September 29 – October 15, weeks ahead of its expected release in November.

Dune was met with fanfare when it had its world premiere in Venice in early September 2021, almost two months before the film hit theaters and on HBO Max. It screened at the Toronto International Film Festival and NYFF a few weeks before its official release.

The second part of Villeneuve’s epic follows the journey of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) as he reunites with Chani (Zendaya) and the Fremen on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Faced with a choice between love and his life and the fate of the universe, he tries to prevent a terrible future that only he can predict.

Dune: Part One will feature stars like Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya, of course, as well as returning stars such as Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skargard, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem and Charlotte Rampling. New faces will join the cast as well. Florence Pugh (Marvel’s  Thunderbolts ), Austin Butler ( Elvis ), Lea Seydoux ( No Time To Die ), Christopher Walken ( The Deer Hunter ) and Tim Blake Nelson ( Captain America: The New World Order) .
