“Dune” is a work that has all the features of a racial hit. Herbert’s story, however, was not as lucky as “Star Wars” or “Game of Thrones.” This year it may change.
The 1984 movie Dune , directed by David Lynch, appeared on Netflix in May . The painting may not be outstanding, but it enjoys a certain reputation among fans of the original Dune Chronicles . It is also a signal that heralds the return of the science fiction icon. Two productions related to the prose of Frank Herbert are to debut in 2020, but the plans go much further.
Dune according to Villeneuve
The Dune Chronicles series is distinguished by a refined universe in which there is no shortage of ultra-modern technology, space travel, political intrigue, as well as mystical arts that Jedi knights can only dream of. Perhaps it was the rich setting that made the producers afraid to make further attempts at filming.
Everything can change thanks to Denis Villeneuve. The director has experience in creating science fiction pictures, has a good sense and has shown a lot of courage in his approach to the continuation of Ridley Scott’s work. His Blade Runner 2049 received very good marks, although he cannot boast of a great result in the box office.
His adaptation of Dune will be divided into two parts; the first will debut on December 18 this year. The history of the planet Arrakis and the prince of Atrida is to be consistent with the original, although the Canadian tried to make a few changes, among others as Count Harkonnen. We will see actors such as Timothee Chalamet (Paul Atryda) and Rebecca Ferguson (Lady Jessica) in the main roles, although the rest of the cast, i.e. Zendaya, Javier Bardem, Jason Momoa and Josh Brolin, are more impressive. We can expect intriguing, strong works. The only question is whether they will attract viewers to the cinema?

Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, who continued the Dune Chronicles after the author’s death, are also responsible for the screenplay for the graphic novel. The comic will be divided into 3 parts, together giving the plot of the first volume of the series. As illustrators, we will see Raul Allen and Patricia Martin, and the covers will be prepared by Bill Sienkiewicz. Dune will be presented in this form for the first time! Premiere in October.
This is still not all. Japanese Funcom plans to create as many as three games in the Dune universe . Virtually nothing is known about them, but one of them will definitely be a multiplayer network production. Certainly, there will be people willing to visit the legendary Arrakis.
Now all that’s left is to wait for the results. Only then will we find out if the Dune will emerge from the sands. Let’s keep our fingers crossed!
