On the eve of Christmas, criminals break into a stately mansion. However, they are not prepared for the clash with an unexpected opponent – Santa Claus. Wild Night , a film from the producers of John Wick, will be released on DVD on March 9.

We haven’t seen such a Santa before – he has become bitter and loses faith in humanity. When we first meet him, he hates what he has become, greedy kids and demanding parents. But when a little girl is in trouble and asks him to protect her, his cynicism melts away and he finds himself battling dangerous criminals.

I wanted to make a film that viewers can watch every Christmas,” says director Tommy Wirkola. “But I wanted to give a new character to what so many people know. Everyone watches Christmas movies! I wanted to play with Christmas movie stereotypes. “Wild Night” pays homage to classic films like “Die Hard” and “Home Alone”. We wanted to see how far we could go with action, violence and gore, but also combine it with humor – there are some shocking moments in our story where we cross the line. The viewer laughs and looks away from the screen at the same time – there is no better feeling!

Santa Claus from Wild Night is not a stereotypical, kind-hearted old man known from pop culture. The film’s Santa is experiencing an existential crisis and has lost the spirit of Christmas , which he believes has been overrun by consumerism and greed. Finding the perfect actor was crucial to the film’s success.

It’s a role for someone who is warm and kind, but also a tough guy. He is someone with the natural seriousness of Santa Claus, but there must have been some mystery hidden in him, because our Santa Claus is a very complex, multi-layered man, says Wirkola. “David Harbor was the first person we approached because he had all these qualities.

At first I was surprised, but I get excited about things that surprise me. When I was offered a brutal Santa movie, I thought it didn’t make much sense. After reading the script, I realized that it’s a great action movie with lots of funny moments, and it’s also a beautiful, heart-rending story about a girl who has to believe in Santa Claus all over again,” says David Harbour.

The film was very warmly received by viewers and immediately joined the canon of Christmas classics. It also enjoys critical acclaim. As Tomasz Zacharczuk from the Trójmiasto.pl portal writes:

“Wild Night” is a dream Christmas present for all those who appreciate genre acrobatics and love black humor sprinkled with a solid portion of screen violence. Such a breath of fresh air in productions set in the realities of Christmas has not been seen for a long time.

Wild Night will be released on DVD on March 9.
