Investigating Inspector Ishida
This time the volume is extremely monothematic, because the action takes place all the time in the same city, and every story also features Inspector Ishida! So you could say that Book Nine is one big criminal story! Interestingly, all the chapters in it are more or less connected with each other. So what’s going to be interesting this time? Murders, poisonings, thefts, and the Kirishitan sect looking for a certain book! Get a Rat from Book Five already awakened my appetite for crime stories performed by Stan Sakai! And here comes a volume devoted only to such topics. All of these stories are great, but because they were focused on Inspector Ishida, I ran out of a little more variety. For me, the final was the most surprisingHidden people , and I was particularly surprised by the attitude of Inspector Ishida.
Even the episodic character has something to say!
Stan Sakai has created some incredibly complex and fascinating heroes. Often, even side characters bring a lot of color to a given story. In book nine, for example, Toto, the owner of the inn, and an incomparable cook appear. He is a nice old man, confident in his craftsmanship, so the accusation of poisoning a samurai hurt him all the more! No wonder then that in order to defend his honor, he tasted the fugu fish without hesitation. In addition to the inspector and Usagi, Kitsune also returns in a short episode, which as a result of an unfortunate coincidence ends up behind bars! I would have had a hard time with the reaction of the Hidden samurai group . In my opinion, they should not blithely forgive Ishida’s reprehensible behavior. Although it is possible that the serious consequences of the finale of this story will be revealed in another volume.
An amazing line by Stan Sakai!
I really like the graphics. On the occasion of the review of each volume, I emphasize that Stan Sakai is an extremely talented cartoonist. In Book 9, I was particularly struck by the samurai face at the sight of his favorite dish. I have no doubts that every chef would like to see such a delight on his client’s face! Sakai’s condition also perfectly reflected the unfortunate samurai’s reactions after the first bite. Out of trivia, I came across one typo on behalf of the episodic character, instead of Muro, Usagi mentions Miro. In addition, it is worth mentioning about interesting additions. In addition to Stan Sakai’s interesting notes and a cover gallery, there are short comics at the end. Chibi Usagi plays the main role in them. The Egmont publishing house announced some time ago that it would publish the adventures of rabbit ronin aimed at an even younger audience.
Is it worth discovering who the Nezumi thief is?
What can I say, Stan Sakai is a real champion! He makes great stories. As I was delighted with all the other volumes of Usagi , I can speak of book nine in superlatives. It is true that I somewhat regret the monothematic nature of this part, but all criminal cases are interesting and engaging. For the first time, I also felt that I was reading one long, coherent story. Although if I were to recommend someone to just one volume of Usagi’s adventures, it would definitely not be book nine. This is a great collection, but slightly inferior to the previous items! It does not change the fact that after reading this comic I am looking forward to the next adventures of long-eared Ronin!
