Who will grab all the Stones? – review of the comic book “Wars of infinity”

Marvel once again decides to mix things up in the universe they are creating. It is time to say goodbyes and great returns. For this to happen, however, it requires an event that will shake the universes. Therefore, before the readers, there must be Infinity Wars .

Decisive clashes

The Infinity Stones are back, and with them the dispute over who will rule them. There are many willing, including heroes such as Thanos, Ultron or … Bullseye and Sandman. So Doctor Strange calls a council and decides to guard the powerful artifacts from inappropriate owners. Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain America, Iron Man or Black Widow respond to his call. Warlock himself also appears, and he intends to head the Infinity Guard again. Unexpectedly, a new contestant enters the game – a mysterious Requiem, with her own vision of how to deal with jewels. On the other hand, someone intends to thwart her plans, from whom we would certainly not expect it. Here is the famous villain turns out to be the last hope to save all of reality!

Surprising solutions

Looking at all the notebooks related to the title event, it must be admitted that the cycle is not equal and there are ups and downs. Fortunately for us, the ending can be classified as one of the first. The author made sure that it was dynamic and there were plenty of twists. It is a pity that the cards are revealed very quickly and we learn about her true identity, slowly created in the previous issue, but thanks to this the story moves forward and we do not get bored. And we get the first surprise, although in this case many people have probably predicted who is behind the mask with the symbol of infinity. We may be much more surprised by the fact who becomes the protector of our reality. And it must be admitted that the guy saves the universe in a beautiful, personal style. The most spectacular, however, is what our new “bad guy” (or rather “bad girl” in this case) is doing with the Stones. She intends, like Thanos, to eliminate half of the population with them, but not to kill anyone at the same time. How to do it? Anyway, you should give him a big plus for three additional, short stories included at the end of the album. Especially the ending of the story of Thanos and young Gamora is very impressive. The main cartoonist of the comic book Infinity Warsis Mike Deodato Jr. Personally, I am not a big fan of this artist, because in his work he relies heavily on computer technology. It may not look bad, I prefer the “old style” or manual image creation. This time, however, I have to admit that the frames look really good. They may not be masterpieces, but they are quite pleasant to look at. The fight scenes are well rendered, everything keeps up with the pace of the action, and the heroes are easily recognizable even in a lot of confusion. The most important thing, however, is how the creator captured the implementation of the Requiem idea. I suspect that when creating it, he had a bit of a headache at first, how to do it properly, and then a lot of fun and fun when he jumped on the right track with his work. And thanks to this, we get a very interesting project.

Since Infinity Wars consists of several different comics, there were more cartoonists here as well. In addition to Deodato, we can see works by Andy MacDonald, Mark Bagley and Cory Smith. The first gave us the story of Drax after the end of the war, the second focused on one of the Stones, and the third gave us the silent story of Thanos and the young Gamora. All the gentlemen did their job very well, and I liked their drawings even more than the main artist. They have more vivid colors, are handcrafted and retain the classic comic book style of the story.

Infinity wars hit the Polish market thanks to the Egmont publishing house. I must admit that once again the reader gets something extra here. As always, there is a whole gallery of alternative covers. Also, similar to Infinity Wars. Countdown , there will also be a description of the Infinity Stones and a summary of the previous parts, including even a mention of the 90s comics. The album also includes three additional stories. And while Infinty Wars: Fallen Guardian , telling us about the further fate of Drax, even had to be here, Infinty Wars: Infinity , and even more so Thanos Legacycould be omitted and the recipients would probably understand it. Egmont, however, made sure that we could get to know these heroes’ adventures, and for that every Marvel fan will be grateful to them.

Peace time?

The Infinity Wars ends the series about the return of the Infinity Stones. Thus, we say goodbye to Marvel Now! 2.0 and we’re starting Marvel Fresh . How is the whole cycle going? I would say no madness. There are some nice and surprising moments, but there are also too convoluted, boring topics, and the author sometimes forgets what he wrote before.
