Where two are fighting, where will Gamora benefit? – review of the comic book “Guardians of the Galaxy: No Agreement”, vol.1

Guardians of the Galaxy are back in Marvel Now! 2.0 ! This time, Peter Quill and his team will have to perform tasks for two Universe Elders – the Collector and the Grandmaster. Will this cooperation be good for either side?

Changes, changes …

Star-Lord and his companions are back in action! As usual, they intend to defend space, and at the same time earn on it not necessarily legally. In that, at least Quill and Rocket hadn’t changed. The other team members, however, underwent a kind of metamorphosis. Drax has suddenly become a pacifist who refuses to destroy even inanimate objects. Groot, or actually Baby Groot, doesn’t know exactly what’s going on with him himself, but it seems he doesn’t always have control of his movements. In turn, Gamora hides a secret from everyone and tries to achieve her own goal at all costs. Meanwhile, two Universe Elders have plans for the Guardians. Both the Collector and Grandmaster, who are arguing with each other, intend to use the team to steal certain items for them. Thanos’ adoptive daughter intends to take advantage of their conflict. All events, however, are nothing compared to what is beginning to happen in the galaxy.

Intrigue follows intrigue

Gerry Duggan is the author of the script for the comic book Guardians of the Galaxy: No Deal . The artist previously created the adventures of Hulk, Avengers and Nova, but he is best known for his work on Deadpool. This time he had to go into space. And I must admit that his trip turned out pretty well. First of all, he created a captivating story for us, full of unexpected twists. When we think we know what the scene is leading to, suddenly the creator surprises us with a non-obvious solution, at which the jaw may drop. The best part is the ending with the familiar villain behind the plot, but we didn’t expect to see him in this series. Fast action and an interesting adventure do not allow the reader to get bored or take a break from the comic until we get to know all the interplanetary events. For my part, I have an additional plus for Mr. Duggan for not forgetting the classics and mentioning the fact that Gamora and Drax once belonged to the Infinity Guard.

It can be colorful in space

For the graphics of Guardians of the Galaxy: No agreementAaron Kuder and Marcus To respond. I must admit that the gentlemen approached the comic in a rather unusual way. The cover already has a variety of colors. It is no different inside the notebook. The riots of colors shimmer, attracting our eye. The following pages look like they were taken straight out of some cartoon. The universe ceases to be dark and gloomy. And very well! Although the adventure of Star-Lord and his friends is not easy and pleasant, the unusual shades of the frames do not interfere in any way. On the contrary. They can properly tone down the action or speed it up. Fights, conversations, investigations – everything has been captured properly, and the views of the galaxies and heroes are a pleasure. In addition, we have a lot of strongly psychedelic and abstract scenes, straight from a strange dream, designed to create an appropriate envelope for the Elders of the Universe. The presentation of Adam Warlock and the troll Pip in a short flashback deserves praise.

Something is missing here …

Until a few years ago, Guardians of the Galaxy was a niche title and only the biggest Marvel fans knew these space heroes. Everything changed when a movie from the MCU stable of the same title hit theaters. Quill, Gamora, Drax, Rocket and Groot quickly gained tons of fans around the world. Thus, expectations towards the issues published by the House of Ideas have increased significantly. No agreementhe didn’t quite deal with it. Although I praised both the plot and the graphics, something was missing here. Well, there is not much of a character’s humor here. The fact that the adventure is not a comedy, but rather a crime-thriller, will not change the fact that many people picking up this title will count on something more. It’s not tragic. We will certainly smile in several places. It will be mainly due to the raccoon and Star-Lord. Grandmaster will also add his. Ultimately, however, some will feel disappointed.

The same applies to drawings. The MCU got us used to numerous easter eggs and you can count that they will also appear in comics. Personally, I looked for them in the collector’s collection, but found nothing special. It’s a pity. However, it would be nice to have the satisfaction of finding hidden objects.

Now we’ll begin!

Guardians of the Galaxy: Disagreement is the first volume introducing us to a larger adventure. The author did everything to make us wait impatiently for the next parts. He succeeded in this play. Some interesting threads have started and the final twist is a big surprise. If everything goes in the right direction and the creator does not stray from the chosen direction, we will have a very good series. Let’s just hope that our heroes will get a bit more room to show off in terms of humor and, apart from numerous fights and investigations, they will also give us an opportunity to laugh. Will it be like that? We will soon find out when, thanks to the Egmont publishing house, the second volume entitled Riders in the Sky will hit our market .
