Are you looking for a board game for a quick game for two? Do you like to think a little, but appreciate simple rules? Then Draco. Dragon and Dwarves is a game for you.
Manhunt, manhunt, manhunt for a young dragon….
The plot of Drako is somewhat reminiscent of The Hobbit . A fire-breathing lizard has burst into dwarven territory, and the bearded warriors set out to get rid of it. The board game is intended for two players. The gameplay is asymmetrical, so one of the participants takes on the role of the title dragon, and the other – as you can easily guess – a group of dwarves. Each side has a different purpose. Unlike Smaug, the reptile in Dracohe does not feel very attached to his seat. He’s just weakened and made a stop at an unfortunate location. For this reason, he does not want to confront him and he does not care about killing the attacking team (although he allows such a solution), but only wants to rest and fly away into the blue distance. Dwarves, on the other hand, are far from pacifism and a simple desire to drive away the reptile. Maybe they are assuming that the dragon could come back, maybe they are just hungry for its claws, horns, fangs and scales that they would use to fortify or decorate their equipment, or is it just the sheer pleasure of killing? At least they try to kill the dragon before it scuttles.

A clash is accomplished by drawing and playing cards. The asymmetry of the board game is not only expressed in the different goals of both sides. Each of them has its own deck with various cards that allow you to move, attack or defend. Players have the option of moving the figurine around the board and blocking the opponent’s attacks. In addition, the lizard can bite, breathe fire or fly, and the dwarfs can fight in hand-to-hand combat, shoot, entangle the dragon with a net, or use battle frenzy, which allows you to perform an additional action. The game continues until the dragon or the warriors are dead, or until the latter run out of cards.
Although the dwarves are outnumbered and have a few special abilities, it seems that the dragon has it easier in the skirmish. The reptile only needs to run away and stall, so the hunters are under much more pressure. The more strange that the creators suggest that it is a less experienced person who commanded a team of dwarfs in the first duel. Of course, a lot depends on what cards fate will give to the players. It cannot be denied that it takes several games to “feel” this board game and develop the right tactics, regardless of who is playing. At the same time, it is not an overly complicated title, and the average game takes about half an hour. Thanks to this, Drako is an ideal proposition for people who like strategic elements, and at the same time do not have too much time to play.
Dragon, you are beautiful!
The performance of Drako deserves praise. The printed elements have been decorated with very nice fantasy-style illustrations. The cardboard character boards, tokens and the board are solid. You cannot say a bad word about cards either. The manual is short, clear and easy to understand. In the second edition, it was supplemented by clarifying a few rules. The graphic design of the box has also been slightly facelifted. The appearance of the figures has also been changed, and they look amazing in the latest edition. The detail of the designs and the build quality are impressive.
Dragon and Dwarves is a simple, but neatly designed and very neatly published board game for two. If you like asymmetrical games and a bit of strategic combining, and you don’t mind a bit of randomness, then Draco will provide you with good, fast entertainment.
