What other movie could be more anticipated in these dark times, if not another adaptation of the Dark Knight’s adventures in person? Robert Pattison, who plays him, has been on everyone’s lips lately – and no wonder, he is facing a huge challenge and an attempt to meet the expectations of millions of fans. The amazing success of the Joker (2019) effectively turned all eyes on Gotham and, deepening the story of one of the most interesting villains of pop culture, prepared a wonderful ground for further productions in this universe.
Creating a movie has never been easy, but it must be admitted that this year the creators are facing an extremely difficult task. Work on The Batman , as one of many, had to be stopped due to the pandemic situation in the world. Some time later, production started again, but was stopped again due to Robert Pattison’s positive COVID-19 test in the first days of September. And although they have recently returned to work, and the creators, after all, do not plan to stop shooting, we cannot be sure how the situation will develop. Liverpool, where the movie set is located, is now “Tier 3 city”, so it corresponds to the Polish red zone. The British government introduces further restrictions and the production must be supervised by the services that monitor sanitary safety. The city council comments:
The latest restrictions in Liverpool will not affect the development of the film. Film Office watches over every production to make sure that the appropriate security measures in relation to COVID-19 are maintained.
Importantly, the situation may become even more complicated in the light of the latest information regarding a new movie set in Chicago. The chase sequence is to be filmed there, the recording of which will take several days and will involve the stunt cast. Chicago’s Fox reporter Jake Hamilton posted photos of the city’s streets on Instagram and Twitter, which clearly show how carefully producers are trying to hide individual elements of the scenes.
The Chicago Plan is sure to add variety to the visual experience of New Gotham. The choice of this city is not accidental in the least. Matt Reeves, director, says:
The essence of what this place really is, its history, they are extremely important to our story. I wanted to include them there, because this is the center of this film – especially the history of corruption in the city. I wanted to expand on it, draw attention to it, I wanted to create the impression of an American city where none of us have ever been. Not the first, of course, because Burton had beautiful, almost theatrical plans here, Nolan created his version of Batman: Beginning from a mixture of photos of Chicago and Pittsburgh. What we’re trying to do is show you a place you haven’t seen yet.
Chicago fans are probably waiting with ready cameras to capture at least a fragment of the filmed sequence in one photo. However, it should be remembered that the appearance of Pattison’s Batman vehicles is not a secret for us. Back in March, we could see what the Batmobile will look like , and now another photo has been released, showing the superhero motorcycle and the stuntman sitting on it in all its glory.

Revees says designing the elements that make up the Dark Knight’s world (such as his base, vehicles, and outfit) was one of the most exciting things for him in an entire production he dealt with before the final version of the script was created. We can expect that the next photos from behind the set will appear soon.
The story of The Batman has still not been revealed. We know, however, that next to the main character, we will see such iconic characters as Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz), Riddler (Paul Dano) or Penguin (Colin Farrell). Although the film was initially scheduled to hit theaters in June and later in October 2021, it is currently not scheduled for release until March 4, 2022.
