Roland, not Regan
Exorcist. True storytells the story of a certain Roland “Robbie” Doe, a boy who was possessed by a demon at the age of 14. This is because of his Aunt Harriet, a spiritualist who lets the boy play with the Ouija board. It all started in January 1949, when inexplicable phenomena began to happen in the protagonist’s family home, such as moving furniture. Scary noises were also heard from all over the place. Roland’s health deteriorated as well, alarming his parents. Solving the problem was not easy at all. More preachers and priests were called to help, and the boy was also sent to a clinic in Maryland. More exorcisms were held, with “Robbie” speaking in a strange voice, his bed floating, and it would be April until April was resolved.
A look from a different angle
Troy Taylor’s book is certainly a different perspective on exorcisms. It is written on the border of a documentary and a fictional novel. We will not find dialogues here, but descriptions of characters and their behavior or places, of course. At the beginning, we get a general description of the rite, an explanation of what it is about, an outline of its history or a few examples. I must admit that the passage is accessible and interesting. It will certainly appeal to people interested in exorcisms as well as enrich the knowledge of laymen in this field. Only after 73 pages do we come to the actual story. It was based on the facts and events of 1949 that took place in Iowa. The author had to refer to historical sources in order to introduce us to the people who took part in those events. It is said that everything described in the book it was really happening. Is it really? Here, everyone will have to decide for himself whether he believes in demons and in chasing them away. Regardless of the answer, it can be said thatExorcist. A true story is captivating and easy to read. If someone likes horror literature, they will surely feel the right atmosphere here and maybe even be a little scared a few times.
Not only the Warrens
Exorcist. The True Story was published in Poland by Replica and belongs to the series Haunts and Possessions , in which we can also find such titles as Poltergeist , Ghosts , Witch or stories from the life of Ed and Lorraine Warren. As in the case of other items, also this time the book was issued in a paperback with an atmospheric cover. Inside, we will find several black and white photographs depicting the heroes and places where the story takes place, which will certainly bring us even closer to it. Unfortunately, the reception is spoiled by typos in the text. Fortunately, there aren’t many of them, but it would be best if they were completely eliminated.
Summary
Contrary to the movie The Exorcist , the book by Troy Taylor is unlikely to turn out to be a phenomenon and it will probably not be awarded. Nevertheless, it is very pleasant to read.
