What if you go crazy and become an agent ?! – review of the movie “Agent Kot”

We meet the sweet Roxy in the first few frames of the film. Rosalina’s baby is a real challenge for all admirers. Wait a minute! But the theme of this animation is completely different. Sweet Roxy is a Super Agent Cat, or at least she thinks so.

There are frequent thefts in the vicinity of Rosalinda Promyczek’s house. Burglars do not leave any traces of themselves, which makes the work of the local police difficult. Unaware of the threat, Roxy finds herself drawn into an intrigue that is intended to remove suspicions from Paul, Rosalind’s half-brother. Agent (ka) Kot (ka) packs his detective work tools into several colorful suitcases and sets off in a courier package on a criminal adventure. In the meantime (luck in misfortune!), She meets Elvis (a human-fearing guard dog), Eustachy (a donkey with circus skills) and Ferdek (a rooster who has been nominated for another broth batch). Does this scenario remind you, dear readers, of a story? Exactly! These are the real Bremen Town Musicians, i.e. a cat, a dog, a donkey and a rooster. The motives of the escape are completely different than in the original, but if you look at it – Agent Kot is only a modernized transformation of the well-known fairy tale of the Grimm brothers. It is also impossible to resist the impression that the directors – brothers Christoph and Wolfgang Lauenstein built their story in relation to films such as Marnie , The Man Who Knew Too Much , The Thief in the Hotel or North, Northwest . Agent Cat is almost like Hitchcock!

A comedy intended for children

While watching Agent Kota in Cinema City, adult viewers had the opportunity to hear the cheerful chuckles of children, who were also (mostly) in the room. Yes, animation can be fun, but older audiences will surely pay attention to the schematic nature of the story and the caricature of the characters. First, Roxy only knows the outside world from television (she closely follows the series like Totally Spies or The Powerpuff Girls), but despite this, he is doing very well in his new role. A cat that has never gone outside is able to recreate the behavior of heroes from favorite fairy tales and act fully consciously. The Belgian-German cooperation also translated into the visual quality of the story. The viewer, used to beautiful Disney fairy tales, may be a bit disappointed with the simply ugly heroes. Human figures whose body structure is unnatural are particularly unattractive (Rosalinda has huge, disproportionately wide hips in relation to the waist, while her brother is characterized by inhumanly long fingers and underdeveloped ears).

We – Poles – are doing well

And it turned out really well! Viewers who decided to watch the film in the original may have a different opinion, but in my opinion – the animation is really good to listen to. Despite the fact that the fairy tale does not surprise its plot, the characters will not be remembered for many years, and the music is not captivating, the production is of a good level. The youngest viewers in particular will be delighted to watch the animal heroes struggle to prove that someone else is behind the series of crimes.
