What is eternal and divine might seem unchanging. Unfortunately, this is not the case, because when we find Loki in the pantheon, we will know immediately that something will go wrong.
New old beginnings
Jason Aaron stands out from other authors of Thor’s adventures in his efforts to stay true to mythological roots. So how can she continue her work when Jane Foster takes over the role of the Thunderer? It uses flashbacks. Although they only account for 25% of the new volume, they can nevertheless show us quite transparently why Thor is not so perfect and why he can sometimes be replaced. Such a short story may not be the most important, but it deserves a moment of attention, and in the future – maybe a separate series?
The war for Midgard continues
The four booklets of the main story in this new volume are a brilliantly drawn narrative arc that manages to present a deadly subject and make it a bit lighter. Compared to the first volume, we get more time to look at how Jane Foster spends her moments as a hero, as well as a more concrete presentation of her human powerlessness during the crisis. The former beloved of Thor proves once again that not strength, but intelligence and innate cleverness, as well as compassion, can solve our problems.
I can address my criticism to several supporting characters who have received as much attention as the main character. One of them is the main opponent of the protagonist, and the other is agent Roz from SHIELD. On the other hand, the theme of the enemy in the foreground is interesting in its own way. Dario Agger, through an agreement with Malekith, is drilling into the worlds of Odin. This fact does not suit other earthly owners of bloodthirsty corporations. A group of influential white-gloved mobsters decide to forcibly take over the business and get rid of Agger, which could result in the death of millions of lives. Thor has no choice but to save his great enemy.
The story presented is very good! On the one hand, Jane / Thor together with Agent Salomon are trying to determine where the abducted Agger is, and on the other hand we have SHIELD agents who are trying to decipher the identity of the Mighty Thor. The action is fast-paced and suspenseful, but I’d rather it had more Thor than other characters.
Color issues like Bifrost
Russell Dauterman is still working on the visuals for the main story about the female Thor. He does his job perfectly, because we get fabulously colorful, legible and dynamic pictures. The light chaos related to the layout of the frames only attracts the reader more, thus focusing the eyes on the most important issues. What’s new is surprising, and in this case, virtually every page has a completely different layout. In the case of flashbacks, we are dealing with the works of Rafa. The styles of these gentlemen are no longer as colorful as Dauterman’s. Is that okay? Yes of course! They show us the dark history of the Asgardian world which, despite being divine, is not without its faults.
The mighty Thor Volume 2: Lords of Midgard is a worthy continuation of the first. Aaron in an outstanding way tries to continue the traditions of the male Thor, and at the same time respond to what is happening in the Marvel Universe.
