What can we expect from the prequel to The Hunger Games?

5 years have passed since the premiere of the last film about the history of Katniss Everdeen. However, we will soon return to the brutal and unjust world of Panem, gaining a slightly different perspective on the events of the trilogy. Who will the plot of the film focus on?

The film will be based on the novel Ballad of Birds and Snakes  by Suzanne Collins, who created the world with Panem. The plot will therefore focus on the figure of President Snow and his past. Donald Sutherland will not play his role again due to the discrepancy in time between the two stories. The prequel will be about the events taking place 64 years before the first Katniss Games. We will see Snow not as a ruthless president with disturbed morals, but as a mentor of the 10 Games. He’ll have to do whatever it takes to help District 12 tribute survive in a deadly tournament.

In a special panel at New York’s Comic-Con, Hunger Games producer Nina Jacobson and publisher David Levithan share their thoughts on the series and what the prequel will bring. Although the production of the film has not yet started, they are trying to answer the question of the difference between the previous scenes and the upcoming part. According to Jacobson, the biggest difference is in perspective. We will no longer see an inaccessible hunter fighting for the survival of her family. The main protagonist will be the one fans have already hated. When asked about the future of the universe, David Levithan does not rule out subsequent books based on it. However, he leaves this decision to the author.
