Who has not heard of the great warrior who fell at the gates of Troy? He was told by Homer, athletes are afraid of tearing the tendon named after him, and at the beginning of this millennium he was portrayed by Hollywood megastar Tyler Durden Brad Pitt, so he does not need to be introduced. The introduction, on the other hand, will be useful in the upcoming game about the unknown adventures of this legendary character. Dark Point Games studio from Toruń, which is making its debut on the market, wants to treat us with them.
Achilles’ heel is his lungs
Achilles: Legends Untold is an action RPG game in the climate of Dark Souls or Bloodborne. Therefore, the combat system is based primarily on finding the right moment to hit the opponent. Few people know, but the mythical hero was in fact a heavy smoker and just four quick swings of the sword can tire him so much that he is not able to stab the sword even in the opponent’s back. The stamina bar also drops when blocking blows, so it’s definitely better to avoid them with dodges. I know that’s the image of souls-like, but it bothers me with the vision of a warrior whose only weak point is his heel. The opponents at the demo stage are diverse, and the demo can certainly be considered a potential cross-section of what awaits us on Steam in Early Access. We have a lot of warriors with shields, archers, skeletons and even a huge scorpion. Not only that, as announced, the enemies complement each other – once or twice, a Trojan archer, as part of a two-way action, jumped from the back of an ally crouching in front of him, to surprise us with arrows. As if another famous hero from ancient times, Gaius Ceplus from the movie, would sayAsterix and Obelix: Cleopatra’s Mission : “It makes quite an impression on the uninitiated.”
ANYTHING…
As I struggled through the chaos of Troy and its catacombs, I found only one place where I was stuck for good. I should add that I got there on my own request, and only the combination of my pride and curiosity cost me a few thousand souls (used to unlock new skills of the hero) and about half an hour to defeat a group of surprisingly fast skeletons. The task was difficult because each of them with a quick series of blows could take about 80% of poor Achilles’ life. Considering that the squad had as many as 5 undead, after one successful hit of the opponent, I died before I could regain control of the hero – a classic of the genre. In general, the level of difficulty is close to the expectations of anyone who plays this type of product.
Katharsis
When I finished the game after more than two hours, the only thing that did not suit me about this game was its title – when we reach for something with the name of a Greek hero, we generally expect that we will be the ones to dictate the conditions to our opponents all the time. However, we very quickly collide with the reality in which we meet Hector, twice our size, under the walls of Troy. However, it doesn’t affect the feeling of the game itself – Achilles: Legends Untold gives a lot of satisfaction. Most often it is worked out in the sweat of the brow, because each opponent may turn out to be the last one.
Get to work – it’s time to fight the enemy
As a person who loves challenges (and then swears in the middle of every nuzlocke or game on the highest difficulty level) I find that Achilles: Legends Untoldit fits well with the tastes of home-grown masochists. Full-fledged fans of the souls-like genre will feel even better in it, because we are dealing here with a similar concept, but with a less frustrating setting. The remote camera allows us to better judge the situation, and in places hidden from our sight, instead of traps and monsters, in most cases there is a currency waiting for us to unlock new skills (souls) or materials to upgrade weapons in the forge of Hephaestus. The Steam Early Access debut is planned for the second quarter of this year. However, anyone who wants to see Achilles beating a really big Hector right now should enter the game Discord as soon as possible and sign up for the key – the demo will be available until 02/10/2022.
