Western European Marvel Captains

Certainly, many of us, after watching numerous MCU productions, dream that each country would have such a noble defender as Steve Rogers or Sam Wilson. Well, this dream may not have come true, but there is a group of super soldiers in Europe who keep order!

Because the stars are not only the USA, but also the European Union

The European Defense Initiative (hereinafter EDI) is a team of superhuman heroes of the European Union, who are responsible for the evaluation of the Ultimats. This team was made up of people who initially turned out to be a “by-product” of the European Super Soldiers Program, representing their European nations, all of which are equipped with exosuits designed by Professor Sir James Braddock, who oversees the EDI Super Soldier program. It is headed by Captain Britain. Of course, the initiative left much to be desired in relation to its American counterpart.

Over time, EDI teamed up with Ultimates to track down and stop Thor, whom they believed was Thorlief Golmen, the man who had enrolled in the European Super Soldier Program and who had gone mad over time, claiming to be the original god. In fact, EDI and their allies were tricked by Loki into trying to dismantle the Ultimates before interfering with the attack of the Liberators – the international criminal group that invaded America.

During the events of the Ultimatum event, EDI was in London where Captain Britain discussed how to take action against Magneto in the Houses of Parliament. This was cut short by the incursion of Multiple Man, who planted a series of bombs that destroyed Parliament and everyone in it. In the aftermath of events, the European Union set out to recreate EDI by creating Excalibur-class super soldiers led by Captain Britain’s successor, Jamie Braddock.

Basic composition

Captain Britain – Brian Braddock. From his youth, he was fascinated by the WWII super soldier, Captain America, and even hung a poster of the hero in his room at Fettes College, his Edinburgh boarding school. Inheriting the scientific abilities of his bioengineering father Sir James Braddock, Brian finally joined him at the Dome in Brussels, working for the EDI Super Soldier program. Brian worked on designing an exosuit that could enhance the user’s abilities. There was a personal tragedy in the Braddock family when Brian’s sister Betsy, an agent of Psi STRIKE (British SHIELD branch), was possessed by rebel mutant David Xavier and killed by the X-Men, although the family soon found out she had survived by taking over the body of a long-lasting victim coma. Shortly thereafter, Brian perfected his armor and assumed the code name Captain Britain. With other EU candidates. he took the lead in ensuring peace in Europe. One of Brian’s first missions was to pick up a downed submarine, assisted by two of his EDI colleagues. and Iron Man. Brian died of cancer from the use of one of the first versions of the Captain Britain suit, and his brother James succeeded him as British captain. It must be admitted, however, that the exoskeleton gave him not only superhuman strength, but also the ability to fly, and created a special protective field. Captain Italy – Umberto Landi, Captain France – Hugo Etherlinck and Captain Spain – Carlos Fraile. Very little is known about these superheroes, except that they possessed the ability to fly actively and superhuman strength thanks to their special suits. As they carried out their last mission together, Umberto and Hugo were most likely killed, though Landi was later seen fighting the evil Cyclopean versions of another universe heroes who were rampaging in New York City.

What about Germany?

It is known that Johann Schmidt aka Red Skull decided to create the first German super soldier. However, this project did not end there. The Germans also got their version of the captain. Hauptmann Deutschland, also known as Vormund, is the German Captain America , who belongs to part of the Schutz Heiliggruppe team, which was the national super team protecting Germany after World War II. He first appeared where Schutz Heiliggruppe caught the Red Skull and abducted him back to Germany in an attempt to bring him to trial for war crimes. Although they managed to capture the Skull and then his crew, they later handed it over to fake Thor, Iron Man and Captain America, who were in fact shape-shifting androids created by Arnim Zola.

Realizing the fraud, Hauptmann Deutschland followed the Skull back to America. After a fight with Captain America, the heroes joined forces to track down the Skull. They ended their hunt when they confronted the fake corpse of the Red Skull. Vormund’s next appearance took place in a somewhat convoluted tale in which he set off with Zeitgeist, another member of the Schutz Heiliggruppe, to investigate the murder of their partner Blitzkrieger who had been killed during the investigation of the murders of many local South American superheroes.

As you can see, not only the US has its Captain or Captains. Also in the European Union, we can pride ourselves in having a certain equivalent of the Captain. I wonder if there will ever be the turn of the official Marvel Captain Poland?
