It takes Carnevale di Venezia . The streets are crowded and noisy. People have dressed masks, they are unrecognizable. Myszart, which is on the last stage of its artistic tour, is delighted with the Italian city. Despite her longing for her beloved Konstancja, she decides to give her last concert.
Beauty in its pure form
When opening the comic book Myszart w Venice , the reader can have huge expectations. And you will definitely not be disappointed! The drawings of the caricaturist Gradimir Smudja are very realistic – you can get the impression that the characters are looking straight at us, as if they came to life after turning a card. The illustrator took care of all the details. It also recreated the atmosphere of the 18th century. The animal heroes are wearing expensive dresses, embroidered with unique stones, and culottes, and as accessories – multicolored triangular hats. In urban splendor, Myszart remains a small, modest mouse (eghm, with a great talent, my dear!). The title character is lost in a blaze of colors that draws the reader into his game and makes him turn pages again and again and again. And so on and on, until we see the hidden magic of the story.
What the eyes cannot see …
One of Mozart’s trips to Italy was presented in the comic. The composer held it in 1771 with his family, father and sister. They lived in the Widerów house, near Ponte dei Barcaroli. While in Venice, you can even see a memorial plaque! Like Mozart, Myszart also comes to the Italian city to perform in front of an audience. It is true that the animal hero does not have to fight for the favor of the aristocracy, but his enthusiasm and commitment do not diminish. The story of one of the most outstanding Italian violin makers, Antonio Stradivari, is interwoven into the plot in an interesting way. Despite the fact that this topic is oneiric, I think that the readers – also the younger ones – may like it very much. The ancient tree playing the violin is impressive!
In the shackles of the past
As is well known, the relationship between Mozart and Salieri was strained. The constant struggle for recognition of the aristocracy made it impossible to reconcile the conflicting parties. Regardless of what legends about Mozart we believe (there are almost 200 theories about the composer’s death!), The author of the script – Thierry Joor will surprise us this time. Salieri will appear at some point in history and will make us look at him with a kinder eye from now on. It is worth noting that the comic also features fictional characters, enriching the plot. Undoubtedly, however, Mozart, Salieri and Constance are real. In the comic book, I found one plot discrepancy – when the composer was in Italy, he could not know his future wife, because they only saw each other for the first time six years later. This slight oversight may be due to the fact that that the comic is dedicated to teenagers. These, in turn, will probably not wonder when and where the composer met his beloved.
At the end
The story told in the comic is very consistent and will surely appeal to readers of all ages. Especially, however, those who know who Mozart was and know his works. However, if your child is not attending music lessons yet, Myszart w Venice from Egmont Publishing House will help initiate a truly artistic conversation – about one of the most beautiful cities in the world, about the values in life and melodies that changed the world.
