MCU director Michael Giacchino’s debut was well received by fans and critics alike. Many people praised its tone and commitment to Marvel Studios’ darker, sacred history.
Horror isn’t hard to find in Phase 4, and both Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Moon Knight have some creepy elements. But audiences enjoyed Elsa Bloodstone and Jack Russell’s mature adventure last fall. There’s the matter of other special Marvel Studios presentations. There have only been a few so far, and no new efforts have been announced. Fans clearly enjoyed Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and Werewolf By Night . Marvel Studios has jumped quite far beyond its usual productions with Werewolf in the Night. So you might wonder how this project came about. Producer Brian Gay explained that the studio wanted something completely different for the special. Marvel also drew inspiration from the seasonal classics that were TV staples decades ago.
It’s funny how sometimes things just come together. And this was just one of them. We’ve always wondered: where can we introduce Werewolf at Night ? We love this character. What’s okay? And of course, a movie, a TV show, a series, the length of the series varies, but Disney+ allows us to be very flexible in what we do.

One of the things that always came up was that we love a good old fashioned special, something like A Charlie Brown Christmas or Frosty the Snowman , things like that that were special and show up once or maybe every year. And we said, Could we do one of those? And it turns out the answer was yes. And that’s where Werewolf in the Night came from .
As increasingly terrifying characters continue to appear, some fans are wondering if they can expect more horror-themed adventures in the MCU. Producer Stephen Broussard said Marvel likes the idea of exploring this realm.
Well, I will say that we’re starting to introduce cool characters that are on the darker side, the more monstrous side, the supernatural and the occult in a very organic way as you see these characters emerge. I think in a very organic way it feels like there might be ways to continue these stories in a way that feels very fresh and new and keeps us on that scary side of things.
